I can't say that I love the design, although I do like it more than most designer vinyl. But the price is right and I can appreciate the quality of it. In fact, as I repeatedly said this weekend, I actually LOVE the insert! It's so simple and childish. It's designed like some cheap toy you'd get at Walgreens or a flea market. It reminds me of when you were little and even those crummy things were like gold, yet when you open the package you get something you can appreciate even as an adult collector. I say "bravo!" to that insert!

Wow, even though I held that thing briefly the other night, I'm more impressed with it after watching your review. I love the car mode. But it's just too expensive.... :(

Yeah, in person and out of the package, these things really shine. It may not look it, but the green one, "Swamp", (which JoshB now has) is excellent. It seems that lots of people automatically go for the hero colors, but the Swamp version looks ultra-realistic, with its matte finish and just the right tone of olive drab. Seriously, Robert had to have taken a lot of time and care with the color choices for these figures. The colors combined with the sharp detail paint apps and prints make for a great piece.
Oh, Nidaram, the other four were very quickly snatched up by others (JoshB included!). But you hit the nail on the head: this is toy for the sake of toy. Excellently made, standing on its own merits...nothing pretentious about it.
This may sound like a joke, but it's not: this toy makes me wish I was more into the whole vinyl/small-scale toy building company genre. I could almost call it inspirational. Would I get one? Ehh... maybe. But it does look quite good. Almost makes me wanna step up and design a toy like this...
Good review!

I just saw this movie yesterday, and I don't think the figure is based on the movie. The movie version's "belt" is different, and he's blue. Also, his arm never gets ripped off.
I think this figure might be based on the design for the later remake anime show, but I've never seen it. The movie did make me want a figure, but I think I might get the Choro Q instead of this.
Never even knew this existed. I knew there was a Calamity jumbo (just a repaint of the Giant Robo), but had never seen this. Now I have to hunt this sucker down on this side of the pond somehow...
Yours is articulated at the shoulders? The arms on mine don't move at all. It only moves at the feet, waist and neck. And mine has no trouble at all standing without help.
Incidentally, in the show, the horn blades could fire from his head--that's probably why they chose to make them able to be pointed forward for the attack. It would have been a REAL nice touch to make them separate though...
All I can say is awesome, freakin' awesome. I have never even seen the GR2 Jumbo. Now I really wish I didn't sell my giant robo bootleg. I definitely would not have if I knew this existed.
But what I'd be really interested in getting is the Dairugger XV set. I have the Voltron I (English dub) in good-nuff quality (thank you, bittorrent!), and it's hot...but I'd really like to see that show unaltered. I've always liked the Dairugger design better than GoLion (and I doubt I'll hear much arguing from JoshB!), and even now--seeing the cartoon again from an adult perspective--it seems like much more was going on, plot-wise, from episode to episode.
The Cosmo Zero is going to be another must have for me. I also am looking forward to the WWII Battleship Yamato thats coming out from the same line. Picture it, The original with the resurrected space battleship version. How cool will that be!
These are really great, affordable toys. I've been tempted to grab them myself, but I don't think I'm gonna plan to branch out into another line of toys. With that said, it'll be really hard for me to pass on the upcoming Cosmo Zero.

couple of months ago i picked up voltron 5 sets dvd
somehow the dubbing and lack of subtitle really disappoint me
i went and return the last unopened 4 boxes to bestbuy..
But Hold on!!i read sumwhere around that the japanese version which is Golion have more interesting story and pictures...since the old old video that i saw when i was a kid is the golion version...
So far Taito's stuff is really impressive. I dont blame you for wanting to track down the Thunderbirds stuff. If its anything like the above mentioned, it must be cool. Keeping checking back next week. I'll be Doing a review on Taito's Queen Emeraldas ship (999 Movie Version). Followed up by the movie version of Captain Harlock's Arcadia.
I'll probably pick this up; not as much because I'm a fan of the show (although I am) but because it's so rare for old japanese robot shows to enter the american market unaltered.
Now these are those toys that you can grab lunch time and play around..
wish they make more of this line of toys
so far in CA only one place that sells anime based robot toys..frank & son
please let me know if anybody knows another place that have some too
Thanks!
Wow your right! The prices have really gone up. I picked this figure up about 5 months ago. At that time the GE-10 was abundant on Ebay and they could be had cheaply. I think I paid about $15.00 for shipping. The grand total was around $45.00. I do not include shipping charges in my reviews because that will vary depending on where you live. I'd say that if you like this figure, grab one now before the price gets astronomical.

Great review man!
Between you and toysrevil, I think I'm gonna have to really snag one of these...

So what are you going to do with the other four :p
I love unpretentious "designer" toys like these. This robot looks so clean and sharp, especially the red one.

Bah...I think I'll have to...damn...money!!! BAH!
...like a common vinyl!? That's great!

i'm not familiar with the Arcadia, but i really like the pirate ship motif. Reasonably priced too, thank you for your review!

Unaltered? we do hope so..
Your best bet to get these is on Ebay when they first get released. If you wait the price starts to go through the roof.
