I actually thought Macross Ace Frontier was a really good Macross videogame. However, it requires a PSP to play it, which is a bit pricey. At least it's region free (even though on the back of the box it says, in English, "FOR JAPAN ONLY").
I have Macross Ace Frontier and it's just okay. Definitely not as bad as those old PSX/Dreamcast games, but it's not amazing. The biggest problem is that in fighter mode, when you lock onto an enemy the camera follows it regardless, so it's impossible to STEER. You can't see where you're going! Super frustrating. Other than that, it's okay fun. Macross VO still plays much better, though this is way more in depth with a ton of missions and way more robots to play with. I stick to Destroids/Armored Valkyries because then enemy lock on is not a problem.

I always have trouble with the Destroids. It's difficult to dodge with them, and they can't move fast enough to get a good time for some missions. I usually use Valkyries in Gerwalk mode. You can zip around real fast, steering isn't much more difficult than robot mode, and locking on isn't a problem for guns or missiles.
I also find that performance is directly related to maxing out the stats on your weapons. I guess repeating missions to bump those stats is part of the frustration too.
Hey there, since you guys had covered every Macross shows and Robotech stuff....Once you're done interviewing Greg Lane in the next upcoming episode, does this mean that you'll have an in-depth discussion on Megazone 23 OVA pretty soon regardless of what was covered in Episode 32?

PS: You might as well...I mean on some levels it's Macross related as well as Robotech related.
DISCLAIMER-this recent blog message came after the 'Uhmm...' post. Sorry about that.

Uhmm...Does that mean...'no' for Megazone 23? 'sorta'? 'maybe so'?
I mean for Ishigru Noboru's sake...just go for it. You know?
-R78
We are definitely doing Megazone 23 at some point and not because it's Robotech-related, but because it's awesome. Well, the first two parts are.
