The Veef Show Episode 39 - I Will Continue my Campaign Against the Mechwarriors

Prometheum5 and I discuss the most popular western robot series by default. This is a follow-up to a previous podcast and contains much more research and examples of gameplay.

Visit Archive.org to listen and download.

Mechwarrior - 1989.

Battletech (Sharp X68000 port) - 1992

Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries - 1996

Mechwarrior 2 (PSX port) - 1997

Mechwarrior 3 - 1998

Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries - 2002

And now a sample of the rogue's gallery.

The leg holds a boomerang.

'Mechs don't dance in the skies. They hula hoop instead.

At least the one on the right has knees.

Not the brightest moment in his career.

Man, Mechwarrior

I played the HECK out of that game, that and Mechwarrior 2. Remember how this was back in the day when the music was actual audio on tracks 2+ of the CD-ROM? I copied it--onto tape cassette!--and listened to the soundtrack in my car through most of the 1990s.

And then they made Heavy Gear, and it was...not so good. (The problem with HG was that it really needed to be based on an FPS engine, and neither the FPS engines nor the paradigms of FPS gameplay at the time were really up to the task.)

It's got a lock on me! It's got a lock on me! BOOOM
