A big Mike fan!

Thanks so much for this episode. I haven't even seen the film yet, but I really enjoyed the discussion and I think that when I do get to see it, I will enjoy it more for hearing this.
I was already a big Mike fan, but this was absolutely the perfect subject to have him onboard for. I doubt that many other Gravity reviews included analysis by an aerospace engineer.
Please ask Mike if he has played Kerbal Space Program. That game has turned me into a space travel nut, and (honestly) I am reminded of him every time I launch it. Maybe that's like suggesting that an urban planner to play Sim City, but I think he might get a kick out of it.

Thanks!

Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the podcast.

I guess I was hoping for a bit more scientific accuracy, or at least a bit less "It's In The Script". As I said, I still like Apollo 13 better for space-adventure stuff.

I haven't played with KSP yet because so far I'm too busy at work all day, and when I get home I usually want to spend time with my wife :) plus which I think I'd be too perfectionist--I'd want to go all the way to the moon and back on my first mission!

Smart move

KSP is like a black hole that devours free time, so I heartily endorse staying away if you don't have time to spare. If you do take an interest, though, or is a heavily mod-able game, and there are loads of community tweaks to make it more challenging and more closely parallel the process of the real space program. If you want reaching Mun to be an epic accomplishment requiring many, many missions, it can certainly do that. This game caters to OCD and perfectionism better (or worse) than anything I can recall playing.

As a side note, if you like the idea of real physics in your space adventure, and dislike being let down when they are routinely ignored for dramatic effect, I'm gonna suggest that you steer well clear of Knights of Sidonia.

Anyhow, thank you again, Mike. You da space man!
