In case you're wondering, I didn't smash my head on my computer after the last feedback response you gave about Transformers, so I'm alive and well and still fighting the system but that's another story.
you were right, Southern Cross is a better Anime than Robotech. I've listen to this episode 10 times and the more I've listened to you comments, the more enthusiastic I am to buy the boxset on DVD. Speaking of that, I did buy the boxset over at Ebay at an extremely cheap price. It was factory sealed and mint condition.
I've taken heed to your warning about some digital errors on the discs themselves. You've made clear that the Episode 2 on Disc 1 has a glitch on the subtitles and I've caught that on mine, but you weren't specific to me on which of the remaining episodes on the discs other than the first has the bad pixelations on it. I need to know soon so I can contact ADV Films immediately about replacing them.
Oh and Jermey, you shouldn't give Harmony Gold credit for making Southern Cross known to the community for so long because Robotech was nothing but an American scam. I've learned that the hard way.
Southern Cross would've resurfaced to the Anime community anyway without Robotech's influence. Space Runaway Ideon is an obscure 80s show and it managed to find it's audience back old and new without US distribution.
The same thing goes with the original Orguss, Dragonar, Ulysses 31, Gold Lightan, etc. So, yes I would think twice before I give Harmony Gold a gold star for keeping Southern Cross in minds of people because they're tampering has drove fans away.
However, thanks to you guys you have the guts and the courage to set the record straight about this Anime show. I hope that this testament will encourage people like me to see Southern Cross for what it truly is. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart and continue the fight for truth, justice, and the quest for common sense.

First off, the problem episodes are on disc 4 of Southern Cross. Not sure which episodes, but it's a good three or four episodes that are messed up. Weird macroblocking and crap on the last 5 minutes or so of several consecutive episodes. ADV is certainly aware of the problem, so just email for a replacement disc.
Robotech is not a "scam", it is a bowlderization. They censored the source material and tried to hide the origin of the show, removing anything that sounded foreign and randomly combining shows. There's no reason to bitch anymore since all three original shows are available in the US. Just watch them and no problems.
Shows like Ideon are terrible examples because they did not come out here at all and are only known to a very, very underground group of anime fans in the west. Mecha anime is not super popular among anime fans in the west and obscure 70's and 80's mecha anime is especially not very popular. Moe Rape Harem 15 and Pretty Boys Kiss Each Other are what are selling.
Furthermore, Ideon was a modest success in its country of origin whereas Southern Cross was a spectacular bomb. No one in Japan gives two shits about Southern Cross, and it's mostly its connection to Robotech that makes it visible in the US. It would be just like other completely unknown giant robot shows like, say, Acrobunch.
Also remember that Ideon has not made a single dime in the US and it is really hard for 80's shows that weren't already popular here to sell decently when released here. Look no further than the lack of success Dunbine enjoys here.
While I definitely feel Robotech did a horrible disservice to Southern Cross, I also think no one would know or care about it without its inclusion in Robotech.
I'm really glad to hear you were able to watch the real Southern Cross and see it for the innovative, daring, though flawed show it is. It was really doing something interesting and unique, even if it didn't really pull it off all the way and was aborted early.

The more I read your response to bloggers' messages including mine, the more you put smile on my face. You're my kind of commentator.
Even though I kindly disagree with you about Robotech not being a 'scam', your open-minded argument adds a drop of hope in my pessimistic views about America's cultural but authoritive ineptitude. Perhaps mankind shouldn't be taken over by the cockroaches afterall.
Also, I'm starting to see what you mean about Ideon as a bad comparison to Southern Cross. I had no idea that 'SC' was poorly dismissed in Japan while Ideon isn't. Come to think of it, I'm very glad that Ideon didn't sell here in the US. I prefer for Ideon to remain known in the ultra-underground world of Anime fandom anyway.
BTW, thanks again for replying me on taking steps on troubleshooting the problems on these discs. Now I know exactly what to do.
