If you are a regular reader of the site, you are by now familiar with my obsession with the Tomica Hyper Series toys. The Sonic Arrow is part of a set of three vehicles that level up the Tomica Hyper formula and create a three vehicle combiner that makes a giant robot, in addition to many other cool combinations.
Sonic Arror is #1 in the set, and is a futuristic race car.
It's a good sized vehicle that fits one Tomica figure in the cockpit, and features electronic lights and sounds, plus a launching gimmick.
It looks like a futuristic Mach 5 from Speed Racer. The design is fantastic, and the build quality is top-notch as usual.
Batteries go in the back.
The vehicle is covered in connection points for use with other accessories in the Tomica line, but many of these connection points have a very specific purpose.
The grey lid opens up to put in a Tomica vehicle. If you have one of three special vehicles (HBP01, HBP02, HBP03) they can interact with a port in the base of the compartment unlocking specific sounds. Any vehicle will do though.
The yellow buttons activate the light, sound and action features. One button activates the light and sound, the other triggers the launching mechanism that pops the cockpit up and allows the vehicle to fire out.
The real magic begins when you combine with other vehicles in the line, such as Sonic Meteor and Sonic Breaker. Read on for part 2!
