Luke's T-16 Skyhopper
Review by Shogundan
The Incom T-16 "Skyhopper" is Luke Skywalker's personal pleasure and utility aircraft. Using anti-grav engine for lift and an ion engine for thrust, the T-16 can go the distance (excess of 1,000 kilometers per hour, and its flight ceiling of 300 kilometers) in any planetary atmosphere. The cockpit is pressurized to withstand sub-orbital flight.
The T-16´s controls are laid out similarly to the the Incom T-65 X-wing fighter. As a result, Luke who had trained on the T-16 has very little trouble when behind the stick of a T-65
Today I will be reviewing Kenner's 1996 release of the almost mythical T-16 Skyhopper. You may remember that the only screen time the T-16 had is when Luke is playing with a scale model of one in episode IV. Oh, and lets not forget Luke's mention of shooting Womp Rat in his T-16 during the meeting regarding the Death Stars attack strategy.
The T-16 comes in the ho-hum boring black with green hue, mid nineties Kenner Star Wars packaging. Right out of the box, the T-16 is a small project. You must assemble wings, body and alot of stickers. Allow a half hour or so of your time. The toy is comprised of poorly detailed, cheap feeling speckled plastic.
In the first three photo's I want to give you a quick walk around the ship. Note the firing laser cannon mounts to the back of the ship during landing. Also notice the wings can fold just like the Imperial Shuttle Tydirium
These next three pictures show you the T-16 with its escape cockpit detached from its main fuselage. I don't know about you but I hate this feature and I will just leave it together. I think Kenner was trying to add play value, unfortunately this just looks silly in my opinion.
Cockpit re-entering main fuselage.
One last look....
Honestly, my advice on this ship is....well, unless your a real die hard fan, forget it. If you must have, dont pay over $10 for it.
