Oh, and it's Super Deformed FTW.
If this is actually fully transformable with no major part swapping than we have a toy pulling off only what SHE pulled off before... and this one does it in chibi style XD
There are more pictures available than the ones posted here, and it doesn't look like it part swaps at all. Though it doesn't look very poseable, it's amazing what they're pulling off. Though, once you see it from the back it doesn't look quite as nice. Still, incredible.
Not like most Transformers are designed to look good from the back :P The important thing is that, yet again, a relaitvely simple conversion toy pulls off something that bigger and more expensive toys can't. Just like the small Legend-class Constructicons can transform between all three modes when the 100 dollar variant can do only two modes.
IIRC- since I haven't seen it myself- the Getter Robo(s?) did not have a cohesive/thought-out transformation when they were first created; hence why fully transformable versions are impossible to find-or-make.
I remember that an attempt was made many years ago to make a truly transformable version that had the correct proportions. I found that interesting, but didn't want it. Now, as I understand it, this one is attempting the same feat, but with chibi proportions, which is much more appealing to me!
So, I would find it quite reasonable for this new toy to not have solid appearance like their animated counterparts. So long as parts hold together properly and it is fully-assembled and painted, I would very much like to get this set!
I'm just saying that like, for example, the color scheme only really works when you look at it straight on, or that Getter 2 has fists for feet. I'm in no way discounting the feat of making a Getter logically transform, since it didn't even do that in the show. If you haven't seen the sequence Eva, I'd take a look. Same as with the SHE version, I suspect that the people making these are using some sort of black magic.
Sorry, IDK- is the SHE you're referring to the same one I mentioned from the early 2000s?
Now that you mention it, when this discussion started, I checked YouTube and was surprised to find that there is little footage of Getter Robo transforming. But as I mentioned early, I confirmed that it's not a cohesive transformation, and they only merge through the magic of 2D TV animation.
This is Studio HalfEye's version to make it all clear :P

Yep, that's the one I was thinking of originally- the one that was proportioned correctly that came out in the early 2000s.
Indeed, though this is extremely expensive, some 30-40,000 yen since SHE operates on extremely low production runs and maybe even make new pieces after someone orders them- their record is for fully transformable SOC-sized Dancouga Nova that goes for 84,000 yen. I'm not kidding.
So yeah, this one is a chibi, but more likely to get audience since its actually somehow affordable.
This guy's designs look great from the front and the back. But they take liberties with the source mecha.
His Getter Robo:

A SD Getter Robo (Eva-4 should LOVE this):

Even a Shin Getter Robo:

Somebody should produce toys out of ALL his designs.
Huh, interesting. And yes, that SD was indeed cute.
A number of years ago, there were two Revoltech next-gen-type Getter Robo figures produced (of which I know absolutely nothing about). One I have (Getter 3) and the other I'm still interesting in acquiring (Neo Getter 1), but this is the first time I've had any interest whatsoever in anything to do with Getter Robo. And in line with the figure advertised above, I'd like to see transformable SD versions of them as well.
I think that Neo Getter 1 is still available from HLJ.
Revoltech has a lot of Getter Robo in their line.
New Getter 1, 2, and 3
Shin Getter 1
Original Getter 1 (two different versions of the mold)
Black Getter 1 (repaint of the first Original Getter 1 mold)
Neo Getter 1
Getter Go
Getter Arc
Getter Dragon
(I kind of wish they'd do Getter Rekka, or maybe
Oh, I know they still have it. I just have held off because I don't have that much money to work with, it's not that high a priority, and someone else already covered it for CDX so I can't utilize the reviewer's discount we get from HLJ.
a transformimg getter robo, what getter fan dosent want this. I wish it had a few more joint but im not going to whine about it.
i am a fan of getter robo as well but i am going to pass on this one. it just looks so small and childlike. I like my getters to be fierce and sturdy. Great try though. I would just like to see it on a larger scale (even though i know i will have to sell my car to afford it).
$114 for less than 5" of figure? Yeah, that's a hard choice to make, especially considering the correctly-proportioned Studio HalfEye version a decade ago was over $500...
i love the idea of a "perfect" transformation but they look like a happy meal toy. I would be afraid of breaking it first transform. If i spend $114.00 I don't want to get superglue involved a week later.
yes it is chibi looking but i find it part of the apeal of it. I did find it on sale on Amiami but i boubt thats going to convince you to get it.
