Comic

The idea that you need to read some stupid prequel comic before seeing a movie is insane.

The Fallen is a G1

The Fallen is a G1 character,I'm sorry. G1 includes the Sunbow cartoon, the Marvel comic, the Dreamwave comic, the IDW comic, the "Big Looker" storybooks,Masterforce,Victory,Zone,Binaltech instruction booklets,10 or so different manga serials whose names I can't recall, and probably more I'm forgetting.
G1 is a term for several continuities that have many things in common, such as sharing many central characters.
I'm sorry if you don't like that, but it isn't my decision or yours to make.
Liking or disliking The Fallen is an opinion, you can't be wrong one way or the other. Saying the Fallen is not a G1 character is just flat out incorrect.

The Fallen is a 'Re-G1'

You're haven't reached to the center of the sour cube that you asked me to put in your mouth; I'm sure you didn't. Just because that several continuities share similar traits in common like central characters doesn't officially classify them as 'G1' as a whole universal canon by itself, they're self-contained. They're not only coincidences, they're alternate universes, they're circumstantial..nothing more, nothing less.

The logical reason that the Fallen doesn't count as a G1 character is because that he wasn't made in the 1980s, he was made in the 2000s. Granted, the short-lived Dreamwave era chronicled the original TFs, but bear in mind it wasn't a continuation of G1 at all. It was a 'remake', a reconstruction of a classic, unique SF series that we the people had known and love from our 'generation'.

Like Battlestar Galactica, this continuity that we've read ranging from Dreamwave to IDW happens to be a 'reimagining'(Oh God, how I loathe that word), so this era classifies it as 'RE-G1' as the repository for us fans...'true fans' re-living our wonderous experiences of a show that touched our hearts. It just has to be 'retconned' to make it more mature, more susceptible, more coherently canonical for our quality of age because what we've experience in G1 from the 80s is just chronologically incoherent, thanks to all those continuities this series has been suffering.

With the exception of Shockwave, we never saw the TFs in their original Cybertronian modes in the 1st episodes of the cartoon + Marvel Comics. I'm not talking about the way they looked in their alien vehicle modes, I'm talking about the way they looked in their robot modes, for they looked-like they can change to Earth modes. Visually, conceptive error in Floro Dery or Bob Budiansky's part.

For that matter, the historical events about The Great War in Cybertron that we the viewer/reader witnessed from way back. From G1 cartoon and comics, to the G2 comics of the early 90s.

The Fallen was never depicted in any of these continuties that were published in real-times past. How could they add a supervillain TF in that era where G1 came to be if the era that we live in is no longer the 1980s? The only plausible answer for Simon Furman to do is to have a TARDIS or a Delorean to meet his past-self @ Marvel Comics that had the license during that time to pitch the idea to his editors for this 'TWW-Dark Ages' story. If that happened, then our linear reality would've been altered and thus establishing The Fallen as a G1 Marvel character.

The problem is that he can't do it b/c there is no time machine. It's technologically improbable. As far as I'm concerned, improbability is the safest thing for us. Furman couldn't do that, so his only option was to 'start-over'. He had to make the TF universe era that IDW is currently running as 'Re-G1'.

I understand the point that Jeremy has made about The Fallen. The Fallen isn't a 1980s character made in the linear sense, because G1 was made in that decade. So therefore This supervillain is a 2000s TF character.

In other words, The Fallen is a Re-G1 character...if not a Pre-G1 character. I mean 'The War Within' was indeed a Pre-G1 comic and I guarantee that's just straightly if not accurately correct.

100% Correct you are...

"You're haven't reached to the center of the sour cube that you asked me to put in your mouth; I'm sure you didn't." That's to funny...

You summed it up in a nutshell about the Fallen and the whole screwed up G1 timeline reimagined comic thing. I've read some of those comics and there not half bad. Nuff said.

The Re-G1 Comics

The Re-G1 comics aren't bad to read, but they're not great neither. I mean NOT Hugo-award winning great.

They're only great for nostalgia as they were only made to serve that purpose.

Uh.

You realize that all this stuff you guys are saying is totally incoherent to 99.9% of mankind, right?

Yes, I know

Yes Jeremy, I know...going after a 100%. But in a few months from now or perhaps even less...I will be asthetically evolved into a different form of man.

Thanks to you Jeremy. :)

Incoherent maybe, but it

Incoherent maybe, but it still amazes even me how torqued up I can get about Transformers... I've had a say in some arguments on other topics in other places, but nothing gets me out of the woodwork like a good ol' Transformers debate. Maybe that's all that really matters...

Incoherently Correct

Maybe's got nothing on this issue when it's caught 'red-handed'. Just seeing Hasbro & TakaraTomy being inspired from TF fanbases to offically brand Classic Transformers as 'G1' aka 'Generation One' that has incoherent timelines & gap lines as well as incoherent continuities is THE MOST INCOHERENT, if not the dumbest, unprofessional discisions that any toy corporations has ever decided in corporate toy history.

All the more reasons that we haven't come to terms with it. It might matter to you, but it no longer matters to me.

Ummmm.....I'm pretty sure

Ummmm.....I'm pretty sure Dreamwave and Hasbro referred to the comic as G1,but I'm just going to stop now, since I'm a little afraid now. Some of these posts are starting to melt my brain.

Hey The War Within rocked!

Hey I know the Dreamwave comics sucked mostly, but The War Within miniseries was a pretty darn good read, hey it was Furman! The Fallen character is still little more than a plot device here, but at least he has a better back story in the comics... *sigh*

The thing with the twins being racist or being "wiggers", the problem with being "wiggers" is that these are technicolor robots, how is the white guy imitating black stereotypes supposed to shine through, since they are bots all we see are the offensive black stereotypes, if they had I don't know shown their avatars like the also doomed chick Arcee bots, and shown them to be white guys maybe some of the controversy would have died down but still part of the complex and taboo race relations of the US...

well it made money so I guess that makes it okay....

It occurs to me that I never

It occurs to me that I never listened to this... until now.

I didn't disagree with a single thing you said, Andrew.

I laughed my ass off for about 7 minutes because you dropped so many F-bombs. Who the hell cares what you were saying? (I actually had to go back and re-listen to it, I was laughing so hard!)
