Zentradi Tactical Battlepod (DYRL Ver)

Review by JoshB
It should come as no surprise that this repaint exists. With any Toynami product (at least, the ones geared at us robot collectors) there will be some kind of exclusive Comic-Con version. It’s a smart business move – it gets a little more life out of a mold, and gives something neat to collectors.
This exclusive is the Zentradi Tactical Battlepod, otherwise known as “Regult”. It’s the main enemy mecha in Macross, or as people in the US know it, Robotech.
Toynami has already produced a normal version and a heavy artillery version. This version represents the regular Regult as it appeared for half a second in the Macross Movie: Do You Remember Love (DYRL for short).
Is the color accurate? It’s hard to say. You don’t get a good look at the Regult in the movie, but it’s pretty close. Some say it’s a bit too green. I don’t care really. It looks cool.
The toy is made out of soft vinyl, but it’s firm and durable feeling. Articulation is great, with moveable points in the big antennae, head vents, head, hips and swivel legs. For a little guy, he does a lot. The sculpt is nice, and feels more anime-like than you would get from something totally CAD-rendered like Yamato would do. It feels old school.
(Stand not included)
Granted, if you are only going to get one Regult, get the regular “TV” color version. This is a nice addition to your collection if you are a completist, or just a fan of Do You Remember Love.
