Puella Magi Madoka Magica - Extension Set 2

If you’re like me, and you collect “Madoka Magica” figures, Good Smile’s Nendoroid Petite extension sets are a decent way to add a little something extra to your collection, especially if you like to make little scenes on the shelf. 

The first extension set consisted of the two faces of Charlotte, who happens to be my favorite character in the whole show. Charlotte, even when she’s an evil clown, is a bit of a cutie. Lucky for me, Charlotte tends to come with Mami in all her versions, so I picked up something similar to the Charlotte set just by owning her in Nendoroid and figma. So I opted out of set one, and picked up set 2. 

The second set consists of Walpurgis Night – an incredibly cool and visually stunning character in the Madoka-verse, and the Witch’s Underling. As far as Walpurgis Night goes, I’d much rather have a giant statue of some sort, but I’ll take what I can get. So let’s look into the set, shall we?

Here’s the box. It’s not very big.

The box doesn’t have a plastic case of any kind to secure the figures. They’re wrapped in bubble wrap and tossed inside. 

Out of the package, here is Walpurgis Night. 

She comes basically as one piece. You only have to snap together her stand, which is easy.

I really like her gears. They were one of the details that made me like the design for the character.

Now let’s move onto the Witch’s Assistant.

He’s got a whole, “Paint me like one of your French girls,” arm going here.

For a small set, they’re not bad. Especially when you put them together with the whole gang of “Madoka” critters.

The first time I saw set 2 out in the wild for sale, it was at a convention and the asking price was $40. Considering the list price on Hobby Search is 1,143 yen – about $12 – even considering the set is sold out that’s outrageous. I later found it in the wild for $35 and $25. It’s made by Good Smile, so quality is a foregone conclusion. You’ll notice nowhere in my review do I mention paint impurities, bad sculpt or bits that needed sanding. The figures are exactly what they claim they are, and as such, $25 isn’t a terrible price. 

All-in-all? Great set, excellent make, would buy again. I’m excited to have more ways to terrorize my “Madoka” figures.
