Powered System Maneuver Alpha

As of this writing there are 16 different sets of Diaclone Powered Suits from the Diaclone Reboot. I LOVED the Dia-Battles V2 and was excited to see more from the line, but most of what you get has been recolors (aside from Big-Powered, which I don’t have yet).

Today we are reviewing one of the many Powered Suits from the line, the DA-21 Powered System Maneuver Alpha. The Beta (DA-22) is the same figure, only red.

This toy was provided for review by HobbyLink Japan

The outer box is small, glossy, and made of a firm cardboard. Inside the toy and parts rest in a clear tray.

Inside you get:

  • Powered suit
  • Dianaut
  • Weapon
  • 4 variant hands
  • storage cube
  • cube connectors

The suit and figure are very small. This should not be a surprise as the figures are under an inch tall, but the total height of the suit is only 75mm, which equals only 3 inches tall. So you are getting a 3-inch tall robot, plus accessories, for about $30.

The suit itself, despite being small, is super fun to play with. It’s very poseable, has a bunch of configurations, and very durable.

Maneuver Mode

This is the default mode, with the head exposed and a basic humanoid mode. It’s got ball jointed elbows and hips, double jointed knees, and other joints in the shoulders, neck and feet. There’s a lot you can do with it.

Notice all the hexagonal shapes on the figure. These pegs holes can accommodate a number of accessories from various Diaclone sets.

The weapon also has connection points, both pegs and sockets.

Of course, the cockpit opens to house the Dianaut figure. The figure itself is fully articulated, which is a marvel of engineering.

The hands pop out easily and can swap out with either bladed weapons or guns.

These weapons have tabs that can slot into the side of the body for storage.

Mech Mode

A small bit of transformation, including sliding the whole leg assembly up a track up the back, results in mech mode.

Ride Mode

This thing is called Ride Mode for some reason.

Hangar Mode

Hangar Mode is pretty much what you think it is – preparation to go into the container. It’s compact, and it fits in perfectly.

The container is VERY COOL. It opens up to reveal a detailed interior, loading ramp, and storage rack. There’s a peg in the back wall to secure the unit to.

All of the accessories have a slot to attach to on the weapons rack, and it folds away for compact storage.

The storage cube, called a Raid Chamber, has connection points on the back, to connect to other storage cubes or other accessories. There are additional plugs provided that are useful if you have other sets, but useless on their own.

And that’s the key to enjoying the new Diaclone series. If you have one, they are fun. If you have more, the fun factor increases exponentially.
