Panzer Ace
Panzer Ace is the second release from Atomic Mushroom Toys featuring characters designed by Robert DeCastro.
The first release was combat R-Zero 0 a phenomenal vinyl toy that was available in different colors. While Combat R-Zero was great, this one is even better than the first.
The packaging is in a nice collector-friendly clamshell that does a great job showing all aspects of the figure. It’s also a great choice considering the weight of the figure.
This time, the toy comes in only one color – blue. But this time, the toy is fully painted. And how gorgeous the paint is. From the subtle weathering and shading to the details on the individual rivets, no detail is left untouched.
The entire toy is made out of vinyl, but it does not feel like vinyl at all. It is rigid and heavy – you can tell that the vinyl is very thick, if not solid in some places. The thing weighs in at 2 pounds and is about 10 inches tall.
Articulation is limited to the shoulders and waist. The back unit is also removable but unfortunately cannot be swapped with the backpack from R-Zero.
I have to thank Kirkland Jue (of toybot studios fame) for turning me on to this guy. I really liked the first one, but didn’t know this was out until I saw it at his place.
