Optimus Prime

Review by Atom
Transformer Classics are new sculpts of Classic characters from Generation One redone using today’s sculpting and manufacturing techniques. Previous releases I have reviewed have been excellent overall. How’s this one stack up? Pretty Good.
In robot mode he looks great, capturing the now “classic” look of Optimus Prime. He is highly poseable with 14 points of articulation and comes with two guns. This makes for a very mean, heavily armed looking Optimus. That’s right it’s an Optimus Prime that looks like it can kick some butt!
He is very poseable, bending and rotating exactly where you want him too, though the head only rotates left and right. It would have been nice to have a “neck” to look up and down.

In truck mode, he looks great and everything goes together nicely making a very sturdy toy. The wheels are made of plastic and not rubber but roll smoothly.

As with all the other Transformer Classics I have reviewed, all the parts get put to good use. In truck mode he has a wind vane on the top of the cab that can be left on the back in robot mode or transformed into an Ion Cannon. The smokestacks for the truck turn into a double-barreled gun. Both of these items can be combined to form a set of shoulder cannons, a nice touch indeed.

All in all, I am hard pressed to find anything negative to say about this one. It’s a complete winner on all fronts. It’s sturdy, well built, looks good and poses really well. I suppose you could pick apart the fact that they “cheat” a bit by hiding an animated accurate chest to switch too instead of using the actual cab but it looks so darn good it’s easy to forgive. These are going quick from the shelves so grab it while you still can. A full video review can be found below and as always, thanks for reading.

Of course any of the seekers from the classics line are simply the best representation of them ever made IMO. Just superb.
With classics 2.0 on the horizon, Transformers fans have a lot to look forward to I think.
I only have one minor complaint for this figure, and it holds true for most of the Classics figures: it's just SCREAMING for a big, red Autobot symbol on his shoulder. They fixed this on the Ultra Magnus repaint. I'd give this figure a 9.9 out of 10, and that missing Autobot symbol is the only thing that kept it from being PERFECT. Other than that, I LOVE this toy, I'd put it at #2 behind Jetfire and tied with Mirage.

This is one of my favorites of the Classics line! I thought that the smokestack gun was really cool looking, but that the 'ion cannon' had a nice big-ass shotgun look to it. I thought the combo weapon on the back was a good idea, but a bit awkward. My only complaint mirrors Atom's review of him- the sides of the cab are kinda awkward on the forearms like that, but that is really the only flaw I can find in the design. The colors are great, the transformation is fun, and it is definitely an honorable homage to the G1 character.
But I also agree with Heavyarms here that OP is a very close 2nd behind Classics Mirage. While I wasn't as gaga over the Autobot symbol like he was for Ultra Magnus, I thought that the white-&-blue repaint didn't get quite as much attention to detail when they chose the paint apps, but was glad that he was released nonetheless. Not the colors- mind you, I like those as well- but rather the level of detail (stripes, panels, etc.) aren't as well thought-out as OP's.
