The DX Thundersaurus Megazord is the first DX Zord released by Bandai America as part of their Dino Thunder line. Dino Thunder is the US name for Abarangers, and Abaren-oh is the original name of this robot.
The US version is identical to the Japanese version. The US box is a new style for Power Ranger toys, with a book style cover. The flap is held in place by Velcro, revealing see-through windows. When you open the box, a flimsy plastic tray holds the three zords. Trying to get this tray and the paper backer back into the box is a chore. I miss the styrofoam packaging of the earlier Megazords.
Three Zords make up the DX Thundersaurus Megazord:
- Tyranno Zord
- Tricera Zord
- Ptera Zord
The Tyranno Zord makes up the main body of the Thundersaurus Megazord. Transformation is simple, but not well thought out. You have to remove the headpiece, rotate it, and re-apply it. The mechanism could have been built in easily to keep it one piece, but it looks like the designers at PLEX got lazy.
The Tricera Zord becomes the right arm, and it's tail can be removed and used as a weapon. The Ptera Zord dissembles, and part becomes The Thundersaurus' helmet and the other becomes the chest.
A switch on the DX Thundersaurus Megazords shoulder turns on the spinning action on the left arm. You can exchange arms with parts from other Megazords to activate future action features. Batteries are included.
You will also be able to combine the DX Thundersaurus Megazord with other DX Megazords to create even more powerful creations.
All in all, I really like the DX Thundersaurus Megazord. It is fun to play with, and sturdy. My only complaints are the aforementioned transformation issue, and also I think the head is too small. If you can live with that, you've got a great toy.
