Doraemon Coin Bank

Review by Showapop
Hitting up a local thrift store in the late 90’s hunting for Militaria, 6T’s clothing, records and anything else that looks interesting and unusual I came across this Doraemon coin bank sitting on the used toy shelf for $0.75.
What is so great about this Doraemon bank is that it is an electric bank. Simply, when you put the coin in the slot the eyes rotate and now missing propeller spin around and the Doraemon says something in Japanese and then says “Thank You!”
The Doraemon bank is a good, large size and really stands out in the display case. I do not know who manufactured it but it is a nice solid figure with great anime matching colors and the sculpt perfectly captures the goofy, charming character of our favorite atomic powered android cat from the future.

3 comments postedNice find! In the past year, I've acquired about 4 King Kong banks and probably my most wanted monster item is a rare Frankenstein bank. There's so much great stuff out there besides things just marketed as toys.

It was such a nice simple item and we've only had one other Doraeman item reviewed I figured it needed it's place in the sun, I would love to see the rare Frankenstein bank one day!
Sadly I just don't find items like this anymore in the thrift stores, mostly at swap-meets now.
Happy 2009

This is the bank I'm after. I believe it was made in Mexico and as you can see, comes in two colors (yellow and black with paint). It should be about 19" and is inspired by the Big Frankie. It's a companion piece to my King Kong (which I really should review).
Both pics courtesy of the Universal Monster Army (and when I say "courtesy of", I just mean that's where I stole them from..lol
