Char's Zaku II
Review by Dkun
Let's be honest. The RX-78 is great, but we need someone to kick the crap out of it! And no one is better for that then Char's Zaku! Although it's technically just called Zaku II on the box, we all know this of course as the one and only Red Comet.
With its impressive commander fin and pointer shoulder pad, the Zaku II does a good job of looking both detailed and also soft and cuddly in this tiny candy toy form. There's not a lot to it, but that's also accurate to the source material so I can't be too annoyed by that.
I can however get annoyed that the plastic hues don't match between the plastic and the softer PVC material.
The Zaku II design is oddly enough surprisingly limited. The arms and knees move fine, but there's just some limitation in the hips and ankles because of the Zaku's larger bubbly design.
This is as far as the ankles can tilt. That's pretty disappointing.
The good news though, is that this toy has no trouble power walking around thanks to its powerful calf muscles.
Unlike previous figures, the Zaku II comes with only one splayed open hand, and instead has an extra alternate weapon holding hand for the Zaku's one accessory: the bazooka.
It can also store on the back of the skirt armor as well.
There's a handle for the Zaku to be able to two-hand the bazooka, but it doesn't quite work as well as one would hope.
Honestly though, despite this toy's limited ankles and hips, it looks just fine on a stand zipping through space and blowing up everybody.
I may have come across as a bit harsh and negative on this toy, but it's still a solid release. Could it have used the swing out ankle joints that other figures have? Definitely. Does it need more accessories like the machine gun or a heat tomahawk? You know it. But it's still a candy toy that costs less than $5.00. And for that price, I think it's just fine.
Plus like I said, it's real good at kicking the Gundam.
