Review by VIR

A senior fairy in the Heartcatch Fairy troupe, Coupe-sama is the silent and stalwart partner of Hanasaki Kaoruko, most noted for his extreme size, somber demeanor, and excessive warmth. Though Coupe may not do much besides sit and stare, do not count him out of the fight when things get tough; when you tempt the beast, you receive its fangs.

With this, Bandai gives us the S.H. Figuarts ZERO Coupe-sama figure from the Toei Magical Girl show entitled Heartcatch Precure! Bandai did an excellent job with this figure, and it encapsulated the idea of Figuarts ZERO to the top degree.

Let’s review:

Packaging:
The box is plastered with silhouettes of Coupe and hearts all in a shade of green. A very nice looking box, to say the least.

And everywhere else are super cute and awesome poses of the Precure with Coupe showing off that Coupe sure can sit there real good when your other figures move about.

Aesthetics:
Coupe is quite the marvel to behold.

front

side left

His sculpt is right on the money and is an excellent depiction of his animation model; it translates very well into the third dimension. There are tufts of hair coming out of the mold which are a very nice touch as it really makes him well pronounced.

The paint on Coupe is expertly applied and does not suffer from overspray, smudging, or any type of mess. His body is painted as to suggest shading and depth all over his body; there are deeper yellows and greens spread about that really make the whole figure pop!

Articulation:
Coupe is a Figuarts ZERO. If you’re slow today, that means there is no articulation, rather ZERO articulation.
See, you’re catching on.
Coupe-sama stands right at 8 and ¾ inches tall to the tippy-top of his horn.

scale

Coupe is made of a soft vinyl and is somewhat squishy to the touch; he kinds feels like a dog toy but more resistive to squishing. He is also hollow.

Accessories:
Coupe-sama comes with three awesomely magical faces for the three main Cures: Blossom, Marine, and Sunshine. They are from the closing scene of Heartcatch when the girls are looking back upon their adventures and thinking of what to do next.

dat face

It’s kind of the best thing ever. They slip on just as the other faces do that come with each Cure, and they look great when worn.

Gimmicks:
Nope, no gimmicks here… unless standing real good and giving the most blank stare possible is a gimmick.

Closing Remarks:
Coupe-sama is a great looking toy with a fantastic sculpt and paint. This physical representation of Coupe’s character – or lack thereof; can you call sitting there and being a stone-cold boss character? – is wonderful to have and is a great addition to any Heartcatch collection. If there is any one thing that isn’t too great about this figure is the price. Coupe was a Tamashii Web Exclusive and was forty dollars before shipping and middle man fees. This makes him somewhat expensive to anyone less than a hardcore fan. But if you love Coupe-sama, then this toy is well worth the price…

mine

… Diend certainly thinks so.
