Monster King

Review by JoshB
Oh Big Lots, how do I love thee? Each time I enter your hallowed halls I come away with some new copyright-defying treasure.
I don't live near a Big Lots. There's one two towns over, but thats in the ghetto, and the place is always run down and I don't think it gets new stuff.. ever. So the next closest one is an hour away, and that one is pretty amazing. I don't get there too often, but when I do, I always find something cool.
Right now in their assortment of unlicensed robot toys are these sets called Monster King. There are two different sets on the same cards, and they are clearly from the same series.
I had to do a lot of digging but eventually I found that these are Machine Robo Mugenbine candy toys. Each individual "animal" is sold separately, and you can collect them to make certain sets.
However, the bootleggers decided to include parts from various sets, leaving you with incomplete animals. I think if you buy both sets you get a better chance of completing them.
The plastic on this bootleg is not too bad. If it weren't for the backwards arms and lack of detailing, i might not have known it was a bootleg. The combined form that it comes packaged in is kind of crap, it does not like to stand up.
But, with a little help from the internet, I found that it really should look more like this.
Don't let the pretty photography fool you - its still a bootleg. But for $10 you really can't go wrong.

As a rule, yes, but this one I couldn't identify at the store so I decided to take it home as homework...

I have passed up most Big Lots KOs lately as they look fairly junky, but this one's sort of interesting.
Notice how much the prices have gone up on them lately?
