Goshogun

Review by JoshB
I've always been a big fan of the Goshogun design, from the classic gokins to the recent CM's Brave Gokin. There's just something really cool and classic about the look of this bot.
This is Yamato's GNU-DOU #004 Goshogun.
The whole idea of the GNU-DOU series is that these ABS/PVC/POM figures contain a common internal skeleton that they slap a different character onto. While the first three Macross Plus GNU figures we're unique, this is the first figure to feature the standard GNU body.
Its not so much of an internal skeleton as it is a series of interconnecting joints. Not only do these joints provide a ton of flexibility, but think of the opportunities for customizers.
Goshogun is 130mm tall and the majority of the plastic on the outer shell is hard ABS plastic while the jointwork is POM. All of the parts just sort of snap together, with no noticeable glue marks or screw holes. This makes for a really sharp action figure that looks fantastic from all angles.
The downside of the GNU-DOU system, in my opinion, is that because everything just fits together and relies on tight tolerances. Over time, these tolerances will wear out somewhat, and pieces may come off easily. With this Goshogun, the side panels on the hip and the arms can detach rather easily.
Still it makes for an extremely poseable and great looking figure. Included with the figure are two variant hands - one holding a sword.
When removing the hands, don't just pull out, pull sideways. The pegs that hold the hands into the arm tend to come out if you pull straight out.
Goshogun is not a bad figure at all, and I am looking forward to seeing how the rest of the line comes out.

compared to Revoltech series... there's a serious lack of accessories. especially when it comes to Go Shogun. I believe you know how many weapon accessories should be available: the Go Flasher light beams, Go Bazooka, Go Axes, and most certainly the extra hands. without all these and i still have to pay an extra ten dollars. do you really think it's worth it?
...at least the upcoming GN-U DOU Dancouga has its Dankuu-Cannon as well as its Dankuu-Sword, with enough articulation to do the Dankuu-Ken slash. i'll go look for this as well as the upcoming Sasuraiger, Braiger and Baxinger from J9 saga.
life needs to be bittersweet;
you work the sweet side, and i'll manage to embitter it.
This was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the article, and when I scrolled down to the comments section to voice it, you already had.
Come on Yamato...at least throw in parts for the Go-Flasher...jeez...
At last an affordable Go Shogun! A bit expensive dan Revolt series, though.
The details and paint work are great! but dont u think it has less artculition in the leg?
I you were familiar with SUPER ROBOT TAISEN for the PS2, soon they will release SUPER ROBOT TAISEN Z on PS2 and they put gravion and gravion zwei too in it.
A very beautiful robot indeed. I have it and I am very happy with it especially the shiny paintwork of the eyes which makes them look as if flashing. I agree with you all, though, regarding the lack of accessories. I still believe that the best rendition of Goshogun so far is the CM's offering which I have too.
CM's has filed bankruptcy last year, there is no hope for restock the really cool Brave Gokin 08 Goshogun, it's sold in 700$ in japan ...
BTW there is a link for all the CM's Brave Gokin if anyone is interested:
