In order to get the most of a mold, toy companies often release variations on a toy in order to maximize their return on the investment. But what do you do when the show you designed the toy for is done?
In this case, Takatoku gave the molds to their cheap-toy subsidiary Mark to produce a new toy based on the Mugen Calibur / Standard Calibur model. (One can argue that Mark likely produced the toys in the first place under the Takatoku banner).
This toy became Battle Σ (Σ meaning Sigma from the Greek alphabet). It re-uses the same mold for the Takatoku Mugen Calibur with a new head.
The box is the same size as the prior toys, but with all new graphics.
As you can see, it's pretty much the same toy with a new head. The metal content remains the same, and of course the stickers are new. The head is evokes a Microman feel, with the vac-metal chrome and 80s design.
The toy comes with all the armaments of the prior figures, and even comes with BOTH weapons. This is the benefit of having all the molds from the original toy.
Mark released two more variations on this toy, which we'll talk about next time.
