The VF-171EX from Macross Frontier is a tuned up version of the VF-171, which itself is an upgraded and streamlined version of the VF-17 from Macross 7.
This is sorta like when a girl shows up at a party and then another girl shows up in the similar dress with different colors? I bet Yamato and Bandai are feeling kind of funny right now.

Ooh, nice! I wasn't aware of a VF-17 that was repainted in "MF". But as I am a fan of the -17, and the Ichijo livery, I'd be willing to get this one as well as the traditional all-black version.
Even for a Macross show that's a lot of missiles.
I'd imagine the mass produce teal ones will be a web exclusive. It's like I said, toy makers would rather hedge their bets on the machine associated with a main character despite its more limited screen time.
Must be Bandai's typical super limited number for the first run. Pre-orders for the vf-171ex were closed up crazy fast.
I know the vf-171 is technically not the same valkyrie as the vf-17, but I wonder how this offering will stack up to the more expensive vf-17s released by Yamato.
