NYTF09: Asoblock
Asoblocks are a relative new comer in the building toy genre that's been mostly dominated by Lego's, Mega Block's, Stikfa's, etc.... The Asoblock system is somewhat different featuring extremely high quality, primarily hexagon shaped plastic pieces that attach using ball and socket joints. The pieces can be configured in various ways to make some really killer creations as shown on their website here, as well as the pictures below. My only question to the makers of Asoblock system is, "Whats with only using black and white colors?"

Who is selling these kits is a very good question. I just did a very quick search on the net and I did not see much. I will say it was not a thorough search so you still maybe able to find a retailer of the Asoblock kits if you dig deeper. I am pretty sure that the company does not have a whole lot of distribution in the US. I believe this is one of the reasons they were at Toy Fair hocking their goods, looking for potential retailers. Does anybody else know of an online retailer that delta7890 can find these kits?

I dug a little deeper myself and it seems that there really isn't anyone distributing these outside of Japan. Looks like Thinkgeek USED to carry them but any mention of Asoblock on their site has completely vanished. I could use a deputy service like Tokyobuyers or Rinkya, but it's not exactly economical if I'm only looking to pick up one or two sets. D: A shame. These look like a ton of fun.
That is pretty neat, but Asoblock or "Assblock" is not a very good name. In fact, that might even be worse than Revoltech! Hahaha.

Agreed: awful name! :P
Shogundan, did you actually get to mess with these? My beef with Stikfas is that their ball-n-socket joints are just not that strong. If you build up something more than a medium sized figure, the joints will buckle under their own weight (and Stikfas PVC pieces are heavy).
Is that same problem present with these things? It looks like they had some pretty big, cool models on display, but were their joints still tight?

Yup, I have to agree that the name is terrible. kinda like ass-hole-block...LOL... Yes Sanjeev, the joints are nice and tight also the plastic is surprisingly light and sturdy. I don't know exactly but it may be POM.

So after snooping around I found Pregoods' English-language site and found their contact info. I shot them an email and Ryo got back in touch with me today. He gave me an order form and everything so I can order Asoblock directly from them! Anyone else who's interested should be able to as well. Their site for Asoblock is right here: http://www.pregoods.com/home_e/
I got this info from PREGOODS about AsoBlock:
From their sell sheet, copied word for word.

That might be the greatest thing I ever read from a toy company. Hopefully, in the future, all other toys will only be released in black and white. Repaints would be a thing of the past, since toys would already be all the colors you want....in your mind.

I also love how in addition to telling us we can't have colors, they actually suggest some colors that we can't have ("like red or blue"), as if we wouldn't have been able to think of them otherwise. This must be the first time I've ever liked a press release more than the toys it's about!

You guys should check out my eBay page,I'm selling off EVERY action figure/toy/statue/robot that I own. I'm just keeping one of those green army dudes on my shelf, and I can pretend it's whatever toy I want it to be.
In my mind.
They have potential but I think Lego is still the way to go.
These are just far too basic yet with the shapes and colors they're offering.
If they're going to go up against a building system that's had decades of "new" parts and also has a ball joint system... they better be very cheap in cost for very plentiful in quantity. Even more so when you have places like Bricklink.com where you can get individual competitor's block (in black and white lol) for mere pennies.
