We started the tour with Star Wars. What a rowdy crowd the photographer/fans are. They were not gentle to me in my first Toy Fair outing, but I think I got the hang of it halfway through. Filled with tons of new figures, exclusives like a Death Star..... well not quite. Its actually a fold out Death Star shaped box with 12 figures inside plus 2 exclusive to the set figures- Salacious Crumb and Mouse Droid! Loads of new vehicles, some big, some small but awesome overall. They will continue the line of Star Wars with Revenge of the Jedi figures! Some figures will be released from deleted scenes! They showed Boba Fett in prototype armor. Basically Boba Fett with bright white armor! Real cool. They had new Light Sabers which were actually very cool with sounds and light up clashing effect!

Next up was G.I. Joe with a great lineup of figures and vehicles. They also showed off some new 12" figures that cater mostly to kids, but are well detailed enough to be enjoyed by many. Also shown was the ever-awesome Skystriker Jet! Original molds have been long lost, so Hasbro retooled it but it is now a one-seater but still very close to the original in feel. My favorite part of the G.I. Joe lineup? That would have to be the Comic Con Exclusive Skystriker with Cobra Commander figure. Why? BECAUSE IT HAS A STARSCREAM REPAINT! Yes sir, they are releasing a Skystriker with Starscream paint apps. As if that wasn't enough, Cobra Commander's weapon is a tiny Megatron in pistol mode with full barrel and stock! Too cool. Unfortunately, it was not allowed to be photographed. I assure you it's cool.

After some time with the G.I. Joe's, we stopped by Marvel who had a whole assortment of figures to cater to any fan, from casual to fanatical. Galacticus was a hit according to them, so they are releasing another big scale figure in the same vein- Sentinel. Just huge and AWESOME. They say all their figures will be easy to track down as long as you start looking early. They assured us that finding them would be fun, not impossible as long as you don't slack off on buying them. There were figures of all sorts, classics, newer stuff and much more. They showed off figures from the new Thor movie, lots of Captain America in anticipation of the movie. I really liked the Cap' America with the working parachute. Lots of neat looking stuff.

We also took some time to check out some Iron Man stuff. It didn't have a huge presence there but I saw some really cool figures. The Repulsor Iron man is looking really good as are the other 10" Figures shown. They also had some cool cosplay Iron Man stuff. Keep a look out for the new Iron Man stuff.

Last but most definitely not least was the Transformers room. It was dimly lit and was just full of TF goodies. They have a new line of figures called Cyberverse which expands on the world of Transformers. There were some Legends size and Scout size figures in this lineup. My favorite was the new Powerglide which remains true to the original. Also seen was the Ark. This playset turns into a huge battlestation with lots of built in features. There is a Bumblebee figure with a truck and trailer. Real neat stuff.

Also there were the new Human Alliance sets. They showed off their basic Human Alliance sets which were pretty cool. I really dug the HA Bumblebee with stealth paint. There was a neat Sentinel Prime and next to it probably our favorite was the leader class Ironhide. This was a thing of beauty! It was really shiny and eye catching although I assume the production toy will not feature such a fancy paintjob.

Also shown was the Ultimate Optimus Prime. This thing stands a whopping 22" tall! It come complete with a G1 style trailer that opens up and becomes a winged back pack for Optimus. While the consensus was that this was more of an afterthought or maybe just toy designers trying to anticipate what was going to appear onscreen, I think it was OK for what it is. I mean this was huge!

Arguably, one of the most anticipated line of figures was the Prime figures. It was unknown whether or not they were going to make these figures until recently. They were off in the corner but they looked fantastic. They did not look like prototypes as much as the other hand painted mocked up figures shown. I absolutely love Arcee and here robot mode is finally symmetrical and beautiful. Her alternate mode makes for a great motorcycle. Megatron was my favorite with a close tie with Starscream. Starscream looks so thin and delicate yet, turns into a very nice Jet. Looks like great engineering. Also shown was Bumblebee, Optimus Prime and the 3 kids. Optimus Prime, Megatron and the 3 kids will be available in an Entertainment pack with DVD, so keep an eye out for that.

I'm sure everyone has already seen leaked pictures of the DOTM stuff, it was still nice to be able to see them up close. Megatron is starting to grow on me a bit now. Seems this Mechtech gimmick might be fun. Each huge weapon can combine to form stronger weapons and be interchangeable throughout the lineup. All in all a very exciting time to be had as a Transformers fan in this booth. Cyberverse was a welcome surprise and I actually dug most of the stuff shown. There was also a new line of building blocks called Kreo which is compatible with a major big name building set manufacturer. I wonder who that could be? It comes with mini Transformer figures called "Kreons" They were all of G1 figures and some humans. No pictures were allowed of the Kreo sets. Make sure to check out the galleries for all the photos taken today.

Josh warned me about buying comfy shoes. New does not mean comfy. I call them the Death Star shoes because they hurt like Death and their break-in period is not yet complete. That's it for now, I am BEAT and I have to wake up in 3.5 hours to do this again!

. . .
Wow- that giant-winged OP does look after-thought-ish. Is THAT our new Leader-class OP??? If so, then I think I'll stay with my RotF OP, thankyouverymuch.
And the fit on the seam lines for the DotM sets is most troublesome even if these are just prototypes. O_o
MechTech, meh. Bring back Mech Alive, yo!
Dammit- ANOTHER Megs redesign for DotM. That said, he looks pretty sweet! Am I the only one who gets an "Akira'-vibe off DotM Megs...?
I hope they revisit RotF Megs in the future for a remold of the Leader-class figure.
Aww, crap- I spoiled myself on Megatron's look for DotM without even thinking about it... >.<;
. . .
Those TF:Prime figs look pretty nice. What- they're making figures of human characters!? Looks like I'll be skipping Screamer again, though...
. . .
Wait- "Revenge of the Jedi"? Was that an intentional error on Hasbro's part???
Oh, I forgot to ask- was that THEE filming truck from the movie, or a replica just for shows?
Revenge of the Jedi is totally intentional.
It brings back great memories. As a kid I had everything I could find with "Revenge Of The Jedi" stamped on it, seeing it brings fond memories with my grandfather hunting down every "Revenge" item we could find at toy stores as soon as the title change was announced in 1983. I kept all that stuff in my closet from age 5 to after college, when I sold a lot of the items to pay for my tuition. Man I wish I still had some of those carded figures and especially the poster.
Looks like they're offering a bunch of already-released figures on "Revenge of the Jedi" cardbacks individually as well this August, probably in ratios like they have in the past with "Foil Chase" cardback variants. While it's nice that all of the SDCC figures offered this year will be for mint on sealed card guys only really, I really want to see whether it's the 1996-era Mouse Droid or a new toy as those little things are awesome but their toys suck...
It's great to see figures people have been asking for for over 10 years (Bespin Han Solo, Rebel Fleet Trooper) but then again, it took ten years for them to wake up and make new ones. Star Wars looks incredible for 2011... actually it's been incredible since 2008...
I know when it was still in post-production in '83 it was going to be called "Revenge of the Jedi", but then Lucas changed his mind because "revenge" wasn't the Jedi way, so he changed it to "Return". (When it came to naming Ep.III, he then intentionally used "Revenge...".)
So, I don't understand why Hasbro went with that now?
The Hasbro Marketing Team only went with that promo as a fan teaser to the hardcore SW audience because you can be darn sure that any fan collector would treat that rare moment as a treasure chest. It's kind of like getting a taste of "The Star Wars That Should've Been Without The Ewoks" kind of thing.
Transformers PRIME action figures....at last. An Optimus Prime with a cool Trailer Armor outside the crappy movie doctrine....At last. An all CGI Transformers TV series....at last.
Competence....at last.
Anyone who knows me knows how much I love figures where you squeeze the legs to initiate an action feature.
I want that original Avengers set too,if it's 3 3/4.
Avengers Set is 3 3/4-inch... There's also images floating around of a classic 70's Giant-Size X-Men 3 3/4-inch set as well.
some say that the optiomus is voyager class... but I'm not so sure... but at least they transform the wing diferently than any other foto of (butterfly) winged Optimus
well the figure is 22" tall including trailer wingsso that should give you an idea of what size he is, it isnt labeled voyager/leader class, its simply labeled Ultimate Optimus Prime and comes in a big box.
Although I only collect Vintage GI Joe, the Sky Striker with the Black fins is quite cool as when it was originally promoted in the catalog in 1983 it had black fins. How we were all a bit let down that they were white out of the box in an otherwise brilliant toy airplane. Every kid on our block who owned a Skystriker got a black sharpie and painted the fins black.
Lately I've been thinking of building an F-14 Tomcat Model kit and kit bashing it and painting it to Skystriker specs...
Cheers
