Bandai's new Dennou Chogokin Tachikoma

Bandai has absolutely floored me with this one. Where did it come from?

The Dennou Chogokin Tachikoma (Cyber superalloy Tachikoma) is a diecast, electronic, articulated Tachikoma from Ghost in the shell Stand Alone Complex. This toy features 60% diecast metal and is in 1/24 scale.

Not only is this amazing because Bandai is finally in the business of making Tachikomas, but this toy is loaded with gimmicks. Most impressive is that you can actually connect it with the computer!

Gimmicks include:

- Fully articulated
- movable eye sensor
- LED lights
- Sound effects
- USB connection with PC

Apparently you install a CD-Rom onto your PC and then connect the USB cable. You can then get a Tachikoma on your computer that you can customize, have read messages to you, and play games!

Due February 2008, the Dennou Chogokin Tachikoma will retail for 13,440 Yen...

Whatever... Lego was doing that six years ago with their breakthrough Mindstorms sets- except that their's operated wirelessly and independently depending on the programing you wrote on your PC or Mac beforehand, and sent via an infrared USB transmitter. Their current Mindstorms NXT set is the next generation evolution of the idea.
