NYCC 2015: Mezco, Diamond Previews, Diamond Select Toys
Hey CDXers, Prometheum5 here with some coverage of my time at New York Comic Con 2015! Today's pics are from the Mezco, Diamond Previews, and Diamond Select Toys booths. There was some great stuff, including Judge Dredd, Toho kaiju, and giant robots!
Mezco
Mezco is a company that I honestly do not know much about at all, other than I always thought of them as another company similar to McFarlene, making mostly pre-posed semi-action statues. Somewhere along the line, they got much, much cooler. Their One:12 line consists of six inch action figures with cloth costumes, like mini 1/6 scale figures. They started out with a Batman figure, which is all well and fine, but their upcoming Judge Dredd figure is what gives me the tinglies. They also had prototypes of Dredd's bike, the Lawmaster. I think the bike will first be released as a Previews exclusive, but there was also a black and white 'comic' style bike to match the 'comic' Dredd that was offered as an exclusive for NYCC at the Mezco booth. It looks like a huge, chunky toy. Hopefully it will have some cool action figures, because it's going to be pricy
Mezco also apparently makes giant robot toys? They were showing off two versions of a gorgeous 2 ft. tall Tetsuijin 28 (Gigantor in the US) that I assume will be made of vinyl. They reminded me a lot of Marmit's Fierce Legend of Super Robot vinyls.
Diamond Previews
Diamond Previews had a booth packed with a whole host of cool stuff from a variety of licenses. They were showing off more releases in their awesome 12" Toho kaiju vinyl bank collection, which are secretly really great 12" vinyl figures with terrific detail. The Space Godzilla was especially nice. I love me some Space Godzilla.
They were also showing off figures from a few different companies, including more of Mezco's One:12 Dredd and the Lawmaster!
One of my highlights of the show was getting to see ThreeZero's upcoming Getter Robo toy up close at the Previews booth. Our own JoshB just reviewed an early sample of that toy here, and it looks great. I cannot wait for this big bad larry to ship.
There was a ton more cool stuff at the booth, including a vinyl Infinity Gauntlet piggy bank. That's just good, clean fun. One interesting thing I did not know about was that Bandai of America's SpruKits line seems to be continuing, with more Pokemon, DC Super Heroes, and Halo releases. They were showing off a Spartan Locke kit from the upcoming Halo 5, so that's cool.
Diamond Select Toys
Last, but not least is the DST booth. The booth looked pretty bare by the time I visited it on Sunday, with lots of empty shelves for merch they had sold, and not a ton of display cases. The one thing I made sure to snap a pic of was the upcoming Deadpool Retro Figure Set, inspired by Mego dolls from the 70's. The set includes a reproduction Mego-style body with three costumes to depect the Merc with a mouth in three different iterations. I guess I will have to get two more bodies from Dr Mego or someone when the set comes out, because all three costumes look great!
