Travesty at the Rondos!

I don't get it. I mean, seriously, c'mon! You're trying to tell me that a Barbie doll was this years best monster toy? Well, according to the results of this years fan voted Rondo Awards , that is in fact the case. I thought it was a neat idea and I've even kept my eyes open looking for one cheap (I wanted to be the first CDX writer to review a Barbie! lol) but best of the year? No way..

I just can't accept it. There were plenty of better options out there, in my opinion, such as the Ultratumba Invasion of the Saucer-Men statue, the Amok Time Pit And The Pendulum statue or even the late entry from Japan, Pilot Ace's Fire Dragon. I just don't get it. Still, I think this is less of an injustice than our own poll, won by the merely decent 12" Bandai MechaGodzilla. If there is a theme there, it might be the the most readily available and easily affordable toy will likely get the most votes.

Other significant results were "Dark Knight" winning best movie of the year. Again, what the heck? Good movie? Yes. Overrated? Yes. Best of the year? Doubtful, but IT'S NOT EVEN HORROR! My vote went to the very under-appreciated "The Ruins".

Dr. Who won best television production which I'm sure will please some of our writer's here. Again, not horror. I voted for Dexter (thanks to Atom for letting me know how awesome that show is!). And for the second year in a row, "Walking Dead" doesn't even place in the comic category. How does that happen?

Still, there were some well deserved winners, not the least of which was Joe Moe, the man who took care of Forrest J. Ackerman during the last years of his life. He was voted "Monster Kid of the Year". And among this year's inductees into the Monster Kid Hall Of Fame was Ken Kelly, best known among our crowd as the amazing talent behind the artwork for the Mego Micronauts!

Anyway, as annoying at these things inevitably are, they're still fun to check out. You can see all the other winners here.
