Showa Pop! Bandai Macross Model Kit Mania!

Bandai Macross Model Kit Mania!

Lately I've been hung up on Macross Model Kits manufactured by Bandai. After going to MacrossCon 2010 and seeing perhaps every Macross Model kit ever made it inspired me to start collecting Macross model kits. I own many Macross Kits to begin with but I never displayed the boxes like I do now. I will always be a builder so I plan to eventually build the kits I collect and review them for CollectionDX. My goal is to review both the reissue Bandai kits and original Imai kits to compare and contrast the two versions. I also feel less guilty building a Bandai reissue rather than an Imai original.

There is something I like about these Bandai kits. First they are readily available and they are mostly inexpensive. Bandai didn't release many new Macross kits in the 1980's but they did eventually take over Imai's molds and rebox the kits under the Bandai banner. With the release of new Macross F and Macross 7 kits over the years, there is a nice selection of Macross kits available to collect.

What is so great, especially with the Valkyrie kits is that they come with alternative Valkyrie unit markings. Having built so many Skull squadron marked Valkyries I'm looking forward to exploring these alternative markings that come with these kits. Check out the great "Destroying Falcon" unit markings that was released with the 1/100 VF-1D. Here's a nice small gallery of Bandai Macross box art.

Bandai Macross Kits

JB,

Thanks! I'm on a Bandai Model kit buying spree right now, these kits are so inexpensive. I found the VF-1D at a local hobby shop for $10.00 and the Chrome VF-1S Special coating was only $5.00 and the lot of five kits I won in a auction lot for $20.00. Bandai hasn't really made too many Macross kits over the years so it is not out of the question to get all the kits.

Eva,

When I'm in Japan next month I will keep my eyes open for you for one.

Cheers!
LF
