Never did see this one, but

Never did see this one, but recall the DVD for it always popping up in one of those budget DVD bins a decade ago.

I was reminded more of the era this movie came out of, when the World Wide Web started to be a thing and you often heard of this "Information Superhighway" as they coined the internet at the time. I personally recall the stupid AT&T ads that promised a whole lot of futuristic crap that either happened or not.

Then there's the mention of "The Net" with it's cyberthriller trappings. Hearing of the racism in Hackers, I'm reminded of the one black guy in The Net who was only there to get killed trying to get answers from Sandra Bullock for the antagonist. He posed as an FB agent who knew her friend who was killed previously in the film and was taking her somewhere after leaving jail, only for Sandra to put two and two together to realize he was just a plant and swerves the car at the main baddie's while undoing the guy's seatbelt, causing a giant gash on his left forehead as he slumps on the steering wheel's horn as she escapes yet again. I don't suppose there's a TV Trope for "hired to get killed" but that takes the cake!
