Macross World Con 09
As stated last year Southern California has quite a few events going on for the anime and manga fan. The San Diego Comicon and Anime Expo are the largest but personally, one of my favorites is the MacrossWorld hosted Macross World Con 09. This is my second MWC event that I have attended and like last year there are always a lot of surprises for the Macross die-hard and casual fans alike. This year show was co-hosted by UCLA Anime Club who also provided the location on the UCLA Campus. The con went for two days, which I only was present for Saturday's events.
One of the first things to knock me out was this beautiful Macross SDF-1 cake. Amazing job! I thought it would be impossible to beat last years Macross Cake but this years cake was a masterpiece!
Lots of givaways and prizes from the sponsors including the Yamato fan racer as the grand prize and various other goodies including an SDF-1 Launch poster that everyone was dying to win.
It was great to have yours truly have an active role this year as I broke out my anime record vinyl collection and DJed throughout the day. I also displayed my vinyl collection and took requests as it was Macross or Macross related music all day, with the most requested song being My Boyfriends a Pilot.
Another stand out items was this Macross Orguss Valkyrie which is seen and blown up in one of the most cryptic 5 second scene in all of the Macross TV series. I've been wanting to make one of these for years but this one which isn't finished inspired me to get off my arse and build one. Excellent job!
Another collector brought out his transforming 2 1/2 foot tall Optimus Prime which he transformed for us. It was hand made and scratch built and trust me being a model builder for as long as I can remember this is not easily done. Beautiful!
Some of the day's events included a Karaoke, video game and drawing contest which I competed in two events. A screening of the first episode of Macross Frontiers was also shown. I have yet to see MF but after watching the first episode I was hooked for life! Basara even showed up for a surprise concert and some cake.
Macross World Con 09, like CDX, wouldn't be complete without it's gallery of custom, rare and vintage toys and art which were displayed for everyone to admire. One of the best pieces brought was the test and custom components for the just released Mospeada Tread.
I can't tell you how much fun I have at Macross World events and this con was no exception. It's always fun meeting up with old friends and making new ones and talking about the greatest TV show ever: Macross!

Quoom Quoom,Quoom,QUOOM!!!
Glad to read you were spinning my favorite Macross-related song.
Those EVA-Macross crossover models,are,um,...strangely compelling?
One of Macrossworld Con's traditions is the custom show and contest and the Eva custom was a interesting entry! They remind me of those Bandai solid plastic Valkyrie and Gundam Girls model kits that came out in the 1980's when I was a kid! I should buildup my Gundam MarkII Girl for CDX one of these days!

I wasn't aware there were any Gundam Girl kits or anything similar. I always thought they were just a fan art kind of thing.
Yes, Bandai made three of them, a VF-1S Valkyrie Girl, a Zeta Gundam Girl and a Gundam MarkII Girl. They came in thin full color boxes and were about $15.00 each. They were made with solid plastic. I had the valkyrie girl which I regret selling and I still own the Mark II one. They only made those three, which was too bad as they were quite cool. The story on the box was that they were young girls that were raised to fight sport battle competitions or something along those lines. I'll do a build up of my Mark II one of these days for CDX.

Leo! looks like you had a blast. Wish I could have made it : ( The forces of evil were at work... and so was I.
Take care all,

Hey, somebody had to say it.
I went to the (Creation?) ROBOTECH con years ago and still dream I'm in the dealers room. So, there isn't any vending at this event?
The Macross vinyl must sound pretty sweet in a big room. This looks like a great time. I need to check it out. I also need to go to G-Fest.
That was the only downer of the event but it wasn't by choice, after they booked the room it turned later that UCLA has a policy on the entire campus that states that outside private vendors can't sell items on campus. It was too late to to change locations as the promotions had already been sent out. They already stated that next year they will not have that issue again.
The records sounded great and they were happy that I brought them as it set the mood for the day.
Thanks!
