Oh, yeah- I remember the story about R2-KT from years ago. I was surprised how much people came to like it. Didn't Katie get to meet the full-sized mock-up before she died?

Oh, BTW, KT has its own official fan site- The R2-KT Home Page. It now travels around to charities and meet-&-greets involving children, and has been to several big cons.

Great review Nadia, very

Great review Nadia, very touching. Got all misty eyed. I'm the same way with randomly grabbing variations of R2s as I see them. I'll pick a -KT up as I run across it.

Checked out the KT sites(Thanks for the link, EVA!) , and YES Katie did get to have a full size pink repainted, pre-existing, R2 in her room at the hospital, though the official one wasn't presented to the family until 2006.

Great to hear of positive efforts of this type raising awareness of various health issues.

I'm a little confused about

I'm a little confused about one thing. The way the toy is described (well made, no visible seams, tough PVC, 360 turning head, retracting middle leg) it sounds like you're describing new features. Aren't those all standard for the R2 body? I always assumed the KT droid was a really touching repaint, without any new gimmicks or design features.

I was tempted by this figure several times. It's extremely cute. I never knew her dad formed the 501st. Glad that he could share that hobby with her.

Hi Jape, Good question.

Hi Jape,
Good question. The body is pretty standard but some astromech version don't have the retractable middle leg and some have heads that can spin 360 degrees which by doing so raises a tiny periscope. I think my wife just wanted to let the readers know that it was not either of those versions. She would know, she has about 40 different figures now..LOL

Ah, thanks for clarifying.

Ah, thanks for clarifying. ^_^ The wording caused a slight disconnect in my brain. It was kind of like hearing, "I own 20 SOC's, and the first thing I noticed when opening this latest one--it has metal in it!" LOL

I don't usually buy Star Wars stuff, but if I see this one, I will. What a story.
