Mach 5: Racer X Version
Review by AJProDie-Cast
Released by ERTL, this 1/18 scale Mach 5 comes in a normal yellow box.
The lines are the normal Mach 5, but with black fins and Speed Racer and Racer X pictures on white paint.
It has typical aspects of die cast Mach 5s:
Engine;
Retractable saw-blades;
Duel exhaust;
Bird Missile;
Opening doors;
Opening Truck;
Spring loaded periscope;
Detailed dash/steering-wheel
And manually retractable air jacks (FYI: which don't remotely stay put and are annoying).
Overall it goes pretty cheap because the cartoon images really hurts the Mach 5 aesthetic...but if you see on the cheap like I did, grab one.

This whole line of diecast Speed Racer cars is pretty cool , and overlooked. Funny to see someone else picked up a wacky variant besides me. I think I got the whole line a while back at a couple flea markets.
The crazyiest one is bright neon pink, with tiger stripes. It's was a tie-in with the Kellogs Frosted Flakes, and a NASCAR driver sponsered by them who had the number "5" like Speed.
If you don't mind me sharing, this link may work:
The gimmicks are cool for a toy that's a lot less expensive than some other Mach 5's out there.
That is so cool...JEALOUS....thanks for sharing...
I have the regular version of this. To get the jacks to stay out - you need to pull them out then turn them to lock them in place.
I have had three versions and I have twisted/locked only to have them still awkwardly collapse, I might ask you to show me yours and how you did it...
I love gimmicks on toys. when are you reviewing the james bond die cast cars?
please, do tell, I love Bond cars...James Bond cars
I have no bond cars in my collection, I do have am autoart rendition of the lotis in submarine mode I am looking at but can't find out what it does or does not do...
