Sorry for the delay

Sorry for the delay in getting this review out. I've been waiting a whole month for JoshB to post his review of the Stratoforce's original Japanese counterpart- the DX Ginga Phoenix- and then I would post this at the same time for a 1-2 punch. Maybe me posting will light a little fire under him, neh?

What can I say-? I finally got impatient.

On the other hand, I know he's been busy, particularly in editing my new video reviews. (Thanks, Josh!)

I remember

I remember saw this toy at my chogokin book. At a glance, I think it's kind of weird. the vehicle that entirely airplane like. Not a very colorful one too. BTW how about metal contents. Is it a lot?

Very minimal metal content.

Very minimal metal content. There's one bar on either side of the head like shoulder straps, and the hips have a bar inside the crotch that's really hard to see in robot mode, but can be easily seen on the back of the S3 Zord. And that's it.

As far as entirely airplane-like vehicle modes, that was actually debuted in "Choujin Sentai Jetman" (1991) where all of the vehicles were bird-themed, and it was repeated with the TimeJets and Time Shadow a decade later in "Mirai Sentai TimeRanger" (2000). The five Mars Machines from "Kyuukyuu Sentai GoGo-V" (1999) were also space vehicle-themed, but were only shown flying in space. The only exception to space-themed mecha in "Denji Sentai MegaRanger" (1997) that wasn't vehicle-shaped was the RoVoyager-1 which was shaped like an astronaut. The five PatWing mecha from "Tokusou Sentai DekaRanger" (2004) were all flying vehicles, and their combined form, the DekaWing Robo, could also fly up into orbit when need-be. And, while the five Blocker Robos from "Chouriki Sentai OhRanger" (1995) were humanoid-shaped, they too could all fly, but their combined form the OhBlocker could not. And this is not counting all of the times that combined robos could fly or use upgrades to fly on their own; some did that just for finishers or transformations.

I really like the vehicle shapes

I really like the vehicle shapes they chose here. To me, they kinda look like (in number order from 1 to 5):

  • an old WWII-style fighter, like the American-built P-38 Lightning
  • a high-altitude command vehicle
  • a slow-speed heavy bomber; and
  • two high-speed interceptor craft

As to the colors, I thought they were fine. By contrast the Centaurus Megazord had red instead of blue.

Again, I like this guy 'cause he broke ground in so many ways, but wasn't outlandishly-so the wild child Megazord in accomplishing this.
