VF-1A Valkyrie Gerwalk SD
Review by Showapop
One of my favorite items I used to like picking up at Pony Toy Go Round, the now defunct 1980’s anime toy shop formally located in Los Angeles Little Tokyo area, were these Macross SD gashapon from the Nice Present Give away series released by Bandai.
At $1.00 a capsule, kids could afford these and quickly build up a nice small collection of Macross SD Valkyries. Four Macross related capsules were released in two different colors, dark blue and deep red.
Macross SD’s where made up of component parts, meaning that you can attach arms to the side of the aircraft but snap the arms underneath the body as well. The legs could also be swung underneath in both Gerwalk and fighter mode and the landing gear and be connected to all the Macross SD figures.
This VF-1A Gerwalk was my least favorite of the four Valkyries but by no means a bad figure. I like the VF-1A head and Gun Pod that is included which can be used for the other figures in the line. My only issue is that the arms stick out and appear a bit awkward but overall still has some good SD charm all around.
VF-1A Valkyrie Gerwalk SD is a classic Macross figure that should be included in all Macross collections!

5 comments postedThough it's worn and packed away, I still find my fully-transformable SD VF-1S adorable and of high quality. I wish they'd do a reissue of them so I could get more!
I kinda wish I would have picked those up when I was a kid, I still have two more from this series to review, plus two bootleg ones and the version I bought you when I was in Japan.
Lots of Macross SD coming up!

Adorable.
I have three of these sitting on my desk right now, A VF-1S Strike in Gerwalk mode, a VF-1J in Armor and a I believe a VE-1 Elintseeker. Thing is mine are in three different colors, white, grey, and dark grey. I got these years ago so maybe I got bootlegs.
Finally figured out what the White and Grey versions of these SD were, they are the original Arii release of these figures. I have since bought a few and plan to review them here.
Thanks!
