Arios Gundam Ascalon
Review by VF5SS
Mobile Suit Variation (MSV) has always been a place for designers to strut their stuff and come up with some of the more unique and innovated ideas in Gundam. Some results are practical and some are just plain cool, but this one is truly unique. The original Arios Gundam from Gundam 00 was known for transforming into what was essentially a pincher arrow designed to ram targets while squeezing them apart. Arios Gundam Ascalon takes that idea one step further by turning the machine into a gigantic switchblade.
And honestly, that's the entire appeal of this figure.
Ascalon stands unsteadily atop its tiny feet and definitely requires some kind of stand for more dramatic poses.
The ridiculously huge blade proves difficult to store so it just hangs loose making Ascalon a very "deep" robot.
The figure has the typical high quality Robot Spirits finish.
It comes with a beam saber.
And a beam machine gun.
Converting Ascalon to flight mode is pretty easy.
And the blade is ridiculous and awesome.
So really if you like the idea of a giant robot switchblade, then this figure may be for you. Do note that Ascalon is a little fiddly with some parts popping off during posing, particularly the shoulder armor. Again, this toy is all about the gimmick and nothing else.
