I think your hood may be

I think your hood may be defective. Most reviews state that although the hood is a separate piece, it doesn't raise up (and forcing it will cause breakage). Mine is secured down (glue?). Hence the reason for an empty engine compartment.

The more expensive versions of the toy do have engine details, and they probably reused the mold, which is why the hood is a separate piece. :-)

I recall some purists having a fit over inaccuracies, especially in the interior. But I can't find any references. It looks good to me, but I never studied the original in great detail.

LOVE this car. Great toy.

I bought this a couple of

I bought this a couple of weeks ago and its awesome. I too would watch the show and love it when this car was used. Ran into it at TRU but didnt buy it. I told my uncle about it and immediately we drove up to TRU to pick one up for him but I also left with one and I love it. I hand polished the paint to remove minor imperfections from the factory. One thing I couldnt do is remove the hood, I suspect its not supposed to come off, maybe the review one unglued itself?

Anyways, if you guys want to detail it further with figures and more accurate pieces, I found a site called pimpyourbatmobile.com its pricey but worth it for those of you that are die hard fans.

1966 BATMOBILE

Although I am an anime and a super robot fan, I admit that the 1966 Batmobile has always fascinated me with its beauty. I have 6 or 7 1966 Batmobiles in my collection varying from resin garage kits to this diecast beauty. I own the more expensive limited version, the one with the Gotham City backdrop and to be honest I have never taken the model out of the window box. However, I always wondered what the difference between the ordinary and the limited version was. At first I thought it was the box art but after reading this review I now know it has something to do with the hood and the turbine engine. All in all a perfect diecast model of the 1966 Batmobile in 1/18 scale!!!!! Wow!!! Thank you Mr. Barris, thanks Hot Wheels! Can we have a 1/18 Batcopter and Batboat, please?

1/18 models are cool

Nice review, and thanks for the brief history lesson, and link. I'll join the crowd in goo-gooing over the classic Batmobile design. The 1/18 scale is nice and satisfying for collectable cars. I just hate that the action figures (Microman,Micronauts, etc.)that are supposedly 1/18, will almost never fit into any of these models, as they are too big (rassa-frassa!), hehe. I'll have to check out Chachipower's link.

I've always also liked the many smaller Batmobiles by Corgi especially. I got a laugh from, and hoping to aquire the Corgi, and AHI versions that came with a trailer hitch on the back, with a Batboat, and snazzy trailer, as a set. They're swoopy fin overload.
