Lurk. Simple as that. Your

Lurk.

Simple as that.

Your best bet is to lurk and absorb everything you can about all the new stuff here, at ToyboxDX, and at Skullbrain. You'll learn about old and new Japanese robot and monster toys.

As you become more familiar with what's out there, start posting. At first, you can ask questions, but try to do as much research (on these sites and on the internet, as a whole) as you can first. These are well-established hobbies, and the old-timers get flustered by newbies asking the same questions over and over! ;)

Once you get a solid handle on things, try to contribute more than just asking questions! Be a part of the community...not a burden on it! Remember, the relationships you build are more important than the collecting...and those relationships will help you appreciate the hobby so much more than you could ever imagine if you weren't part of the gang!

What he said...

What Sanjeev said. But I will add: collect what you like, what appeals to you. If it's Digimon, so be it. The best part of this hobby is participating in the community to discover new things that you like. God help you if you discover that you like Jumbo Machinders, though. Seriously, god help you. NekroDave can be your sponsor.

LMAO

Well-put, Enthusiast.

What he means by this, of course, is that original Jumbos from the 70s-80s can get to be very rare, or the market is flooded with knock-offs & incomplete sets, and this makes them very expensive. (For me, Jumbos would be an acquired taste, and one which I have no interest in sampling; too old-school for my liking.)

. . .

BTW, japadrawtec22, welcome to CDX and collecting Japanese robots in general! I wish I could offer up as much good advice as my colleagues-in-crime here, but I have little more to contribute.
My own collecting started out as looking at the [still-]unbuilt models in my dad's closet when I was very young, so I've been around it all my life. I didn't start seriously collecting until around 1993 when Power Rangers debuted. It isn't something I just one day said I was going to do, it just kinda slowly happened until I realized years later that I needed more shelf space to deal with the seemingly-never-ending line of Deluxe-sized Megazords. While there are many more series and movies I would like to get into, I just have to bade my time, and hope that I can collect some of those toys years later.
