Daitetsujin 17
Review by AJProDie-Cast
Released by Bandai's before the Soul of Chogokin line comes GD-17 Daitetsujin 17. It has a nice box with a nostalgic Popy feel and comes with four mini vehicles.
It has a transforming gimmick and nice look. Watch this cool and funny Daitetsujin 17 video... because after transforming twice mine totally died when I went to create a video.
It may look fine, but is a huge plastic turd to buy/own.
The only thing that "moves" are its arms and hands.
It takes two AA batteries to lead toward total frustration.
The base mode looks fine... if you can ever get it to go back and forth.
The little vehicles have nice detailing and can be posed in the feet or runways.
My "bastard" chogokin even had paint flaws, black spots and uneven lettering.
The pictures may make it look cool, but IT IS THE BIGGEST FLAWED PIECE OF Bandai EXCREMENT! If your goal is to waste 65 dollars for tears and anger with pieces breaking and end up with humming paperweight hanging around your collection's neck, go buy one!
FYI: I bought one, it broke, I took apart, fixed to transform with manual light up feature, and then sold it because non-normal transformation bugged me Then, two years later it dropped 20 bucks in price and for some stupid frackin reason I bought another one... of course, it broke (after three damn transformations), so I took apart and this time the wires snapped off the circuit board as I fixed the inner gears... so I wept at the mess of gears and broken blue wire... then decided to turn this lemon into sour lemonade and put together sans gears for a workable but totally manual Daitetsujin 17!
Even jury rigged the head to work and light up (need to tug on antenna).
Beware, this thing looks really cool in the video, but that is where it begins and ends... it is a pile of flaming....S%&*...I hate how stupid I was to buy it again! "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me!" Will probably be a candidate for Josh's toy bowling...And yes! I loved and wished I owned the 1977 smaller all die-cast version shown in the same video!

6 comments postedLOL apparently somebody is bidding on one in the ebay auction above.
I can't believe it uses so many parts to do such a simple transformation!
Yikes!
Great Review!

Thx a lot for this review, I've been pondering about buying this piece or not for some time now, definitely not then X)
for the review. I saw this toy once at Akihabara for 3000yen and regret it by not buying it, but now thanks to you, the burden is off my back... Turns out it's not cool as it seems
Know what is scary...is I after watching the video a piece of me wants to buy another one that 'works" then i reread this review and slap myself...a transforming working robot would have been nice...lol
if all the toy is wreck, I mean don't they just have that work fine. The gimick is kind a cool I think....
I'm glad I read this! I have one saved in my ebay watch list. Still, the small pieces (that I can't find originals) would go nicely with my GA-81.
