Mimeena
Review by JoshB
Mimeena (ミミーナ) is a character from the 17th Metal Hero show, Tetsuwan Tantei Robotack (鉄腕探偵ロボタック). She is a Bunny-type robot, and she supplies other robots in the show with repair services.
She's kind of a crap toy. When i bought this, I saw the yellowing and sun-fading on the package, and assumed it was all in the cellophane. Boy was I wrong.
Being exposed to sunlight for extended periods of time can do a number on toys. In this case it was probably in the window of an old toy shop in Japan, where the sun faded out the cardboard, yellowed the cellophane, and yellowed the figure. Wander around Japan and you will see many mom-and-pop toy shops with sun-faded toys in their windows.
Mimeena is a very basic action figure. She's all plastic, features basic articulation, and contains none of the magnet gimmicks that other Robotack figures do. In fact, all she has going for her is the fact that she's a female bunny robot and she wields a carrot weapon.
See all those weapons she's packed with? They are not even hers, they are accessories for other Robotack figures.
So yeah, the toy wasn't really worth the purchase price. But you know what was? The CATALOG.
Bandai's boy toy catalog for 1998-1999.
Lets start with the then-current Super Sentai toys for Gingaman. If you look close each toy includes it's MSRP.
Robotack
Ultraman Dyna
Godzilla

4 comments postedI had that catalog! Way back when I was a whee lad my grandmother brought me Gou Taurus back as a gift, that very catalog was packed in with the toy. Man I remember taking that to Elementary school and spoiling the crap out of future Power Rangers shows to my friends by showing them all the awesome toys that were going to be coming soon when Lost Galaxy came out.
Sorry to bother you n this but fix the date. It should be 1998, not 1988.
If that yellowing on the figure is bothering you, you can always try the old "Bath in hydrogen peroxide with direct sunlight" trick.
Oh my god. I think that was right around the time I discovered TBDX. Some of those images really take me back. I was just discovering the wider world of Japanese toys beyond my nostalgic favorites. In particular, the crazy Robotack Ranking and that crow figure stand out in my memory. Great stuff. I still have a piece or two from that catalog. ^_^
