“The concept of multiple discovery is the hypothesis that most scientific discoveries and inventions are made independently and more or less simultaneously by multiple scientists and inventors. The concept of multiple discovery opposes a traditional view—the "heroic theory" of invention and discovery.”
Was the invention of Transforming Rocks an instance of Multiple Discovery or Heroic Invention and Discovery? We may never know. What we do know is that, in the mid-eighties, both Bandai and Mattel created action figures based on transforming stones. I for one, am glad they did.
Masters of the Universe famously became a bit loopy after the first few waves of figures. The psychedelic animal-based designs were joined by a couple of comets, Rokkon and Stonedar.
Stonedar is the superior He-Rock, in my opinion. The comet mode is nicely sculpted and painted. I like the craters.
“Transforming” Stonedar, as you see in the video above, is crazy simple. You just unfold him.
The resulting figure is pretty cool looking. The colors and sculpt are unique. I like the strange, vacant face.
The chest mounted weapon can be removed and used as a hand held blaster.
Articulation is weak, but this is a He-Man figure.
A neat, unusual figure, and a nice complement to the superior Rock Lords.
