It's probably the design, or

It's probably the design, or how the colors are...but something about this made me think it was a knock off at first..

Wow, 2500$, now that's an amount I'd NEVER EVER spend on a toy no matter how old or how awesome it is, or how badly I want to get my grubby paws on it. I can think of better things to do with 2500$

Speaking of which, how much did that one end up costing you?

Gundam

Mine cost me about $2300, give or take, which was actually $1300-1500 less than the previous 2 auctions. The thing about that is, there really seems to be just 3 "hardcore" bootleg Machinder collectors and we now each have this one. So if another were to show up, it's not unthinkable that it would sell for a much lower price.

is it c10? Congrats Dave, I

is it c10?

Congrats Dave,
I know how long you have been looking for this. I have sympathy for waiting for an auction to end while on the way to Asia. That must have been nerve racking. I got to come over and see it sometime.

Majorzero...I know it seems nuts to spend so much money, but when you get to the level Dave is at in terms of his collecting, it gets easier and easier. As I get more obsessed, er I mean older , I will always be happy to get that perfect elusive piece , and find anyway to get it within reason, selling body parts when needed ;-)

I wouldn't say it's gotten

I wouldn't say it's gotten easier to spend a lot (in fact, lately it's much, much harder!). The problem is that once you get all the lower priced ones, you either have to spend or just quit. And if you're really into it, quitting is not an option. So, you have to find ways to make it work. Sometimes that means putting it on your credit card, sometimes it means selling other stuff to raise the money, sometimes it just means sacrificing in other areas. I don't own a tv or a stereo, for instance, my cameras are low end, or hand-me-downs, my cars are usually beaters, etc.. And being single with no kids helps a lot, too!

It's funny how with these

It's funny how with these Japanese robot toys, the less they actually look like they're supposed to,the more money they go for!
I love the way this thing looks though, from the "G" stickers on his feet,to the beam saber that they actually bothered to have mount on the shoulder like in the show, yet launches out of the wrist like Mazinger's hand!

I guess what I like about it is how they take the Gundam, the grandfather of the "real robot" movement in anime, and shoehorn him into the 70's super robot style.

Jumbo Gundam

I even don't know that this thing existed. Great toy!

Is it just me...

I don't remember Gundam ever having a shoulder mounted launcher. I remember the bazooka style rocker launcher. I have an original Clover Gundam toy and it comes with a shoulder mounted launcher as well. Was this something that was planned in the pre-production character sheet phase that was never put into the anime? I know that one reason why the Gundam toys failed so bad was that Clover based their toys on pre-production sheets while Bandai had better updated production designs to base their model kits on.

What an Iconic figure in your collection! Well done, with less than ten known this is a good addition to your collection.

Cheers

I think that's how the Gundam would've ended up looking if they wanted to go at a more Super Robot approch with the series

This thing's absolutely

This thing's absolutely amazing, Dave! It was great to follow the auction with you, from start to finish. Congrats, indeed!

I haven't spent this much on a single toy before, but if the right piece came along (Jumbo Grendizer Spacer? oh HELL yeah!), I'd have no hesitations about jumping right on it. Sure, there are other things I could put the money towards, but you only live once. The (US) economy's tanking...say goodbye to your 401k or other retirement funds! Might as well enjoy life now! ;)

It's all about the passion!

the thing that sucks most

the thing that sucks most about collecting sometimes is acheiving that collection. once you have collected everything in a toy line, the search now ends.

Well, I'd just move on to

Well, I'd just move on to another genre. Should I ever get the 50 or so jumbos that I'm missing, I'll just focus on vinyls. And that's a genre I will NEVER complete.
