CollectionDX - Mirrorman

Mirrorman (ミラーマン, Mirāman?) is the title superhero of a tokusatsu SF/kaiju/superhero TV series, Mirrorman. Produced by Tsuburaya Productions, the series aired on Fuji TV from December 5, 1971 to November 26, 1972, with a total of 51 episodes. This was Tsuburaya Productions' first non-Ultra superhero (even though there were concepts that were very similar to Ultraman, and became a Tsuburaya trademark). (wikipedia)

Talking Mirrorman Re-issue

The head may look a little over-sized and the arms under-sized, but I think it adds to it's charm.:

Mirrorman is one of the toys that was re-released by Masudaya that I really wanted to get. I like all the entries in the line, but getting characters that I didn't already have, or were never released, in Jumbo Machinder form seemed like the way to go. I'm a big fan of variety in my collection. It doesn't matter much to me if I've seen the TV show or anything like that. If it looks cool and I can add it for a decent price, I will. I grabbed this guy at Mandarake Nakano for about 3,500 yen if memory serves me well.

This one is a little bit bigger than the previously reviewed Kamen Rider V3, standing at just under 15" tall. This is actually one of the things that I do NOT like about this line of toys. There is no consistency to their size. I've only got about 6 of these things and they range in size from 12" to over 15". It's not a huge deal, but I prefer a bit of uniformity to the lineup. [Does that go against my previously stated love of variety?!:)]

Mirrorman is just like the others in the series, jointed at the hips, shoulders and neck with a pull-string on the back to make him talk. The head may look a little over-sized and the arms under-sized, but I think it adds to it's childlike charm. It's an innocent looking toy.

This toy is fully licensed from Tsuburaya Productions of Japan. It was offered by Super7 magazine and designed by Super7 Founder Mark Nagata (now of Max Toy Co). The packaging was done by current Super7 head honcho, Brian Flynn.

Like any good Japanese vinyl, Kittyfire was offered in a variety of color schemes.

Regular Color

Black (limited to 100 pcs)

Glow (limited to 100 pcs)

Orange (limited to 100 pcs)

This version, the orange version, was initially offered exclusively at the San Diego Comic-Con 2006. A few have been for sale through various outlets, but the figure is limited to 100 pcs. worldwide.

The figure is 15” tall and made out of rotocast vinyl. It is articulated at the head, arms and legs. The finish on this toy is really spectacular.

The box is equally as impressive as the toy. The outer box is solid matte black with a gloss black imprinting (sorry, photos don’t show this well). The box is separated about an inch from the bottom. When you pull the top up, it reveals a city scene with Kittyfire encased in plastic. It looks absolutely beautiful. It is rare when as much thought goes into the packaging as does the toy.
