CollectionDX - Stikfas

STIKFAS™ has come a long way. From a brief concept inside founder Ban Y J's sketch book, it is now the brand that has defined a new genre in toys with the concept of Action Figure Kits.

The debut of STIKFAS™ was through a successful co-branding in 2001 with the world's leading computer game publisher, Electronic Arts. This collaboration provided a proof of concept and Stikfas Pte. Ltd. was incorporated in August. Work begun on the first mass production model of the STIKFAS™ Action Figure Kit, which was made available to public through online sales at www.stikfas.com in December 2001.

From 2002 to 2004, STIKFAS™ was licensed to international toy giant Hasbro® Inc and this move saw a significant increase in its product range, distribution network as well as market recognition. During this period, STIKFAS™ has been the awarded the title of "Best Original Concept" in "Best of the Best 2002" by Wizard's Toyfare magazine, the industry's leading publication. That year, STIKFAS™ came in second for "Most Fun and
Innovative Toy" in a consumer's poll by Toyshop Magazine, a revoluntionary achievement for a simple plastic toy to earn its place in a category dominated by high tech electronic toy items.

STIKFAS™ debut in Japan in the fall of 2003 under the distribution of Tomy Direct Co., Ltd. In February 2005, the very first comprehensive fan book about STIKFAS™, its products and the people in the company, was published by Hobby Japan, the nation's leading hobby magazine since 1969. This publication reinforced the cult status that STIKFAS™ has in Japan.

The included accessories also allow you to not only decorate as a devil but as witch as well, it’s almost two different figures in one. So in the off chance you where dying to get your hands on a witch themed Stikfas figure look no further than the Demoness.

As with all Stikfas assembly is required but that really is half the fun. You will need a hobby knife or cutters to get the parts off the trees without leaving nubs all over the figure. Assembly was straight forward and a diagram is included to show you which parts go where. The figure came with extra parts which apparently are included for mix and match with other Stikfas figures.

The joints are nice and tight and the figure is extremely possible allowing for all sorts of poses. My only real complaint is that the tail is on a ring that sits around the waist like a belt which doesn’t allow for a lot of posing of the tail as it slides to the side of the figure if you pose it in any stance other than standing upright.

At $10 the Demoness is a win. Combine this with the Alpha Male Archangel and you have the ultimate battle of good vs. evil right on your own desk. These guys are a lot of fun and I can not encourage you enough to check out your local retailer for some of these figures. They have dozens of themes you are bound to find one you like.

:

The level of creativity that comes from the designers at Stikfas really amazes me. They have taken a really simple concept, and continue to come out with fresh original ideas.

The G2 Alpha Male with Dome Robot Walker is the latest of the larger Stikfas sets. These sets not only include a Stikfas figure, but they also come with some kind of vehicle or accessory. In this case, it is a Giant Domed walker.

Like all Stikfas, this figure comes unassembled. There are 2 bags of parts. One bag has all the parts of the green G2 Alpha Male figure, the other has the parts for the Dome Robot Walker. Also included in the package is a sticker sheet and Instructions. Each bag has a zip-lock top, so you can use these bags to store the spare parts you always seem to have with Stikfas figures.

Assembling the figure is relatively easy, but could be made easier by including step-by-step instructions. For now you get an expanded diagram that shows what part goes where. Each part needs to be cut off of the sprue with some kind of hobby knife or clippers. If you just try to bend the parts off, you will be left with ugly white stress marks all over the toy.

It is important to note that there is an ERROR on the instructions included with this toy. There are two rings included that are not mentioned on the instruction sheet, nor are they shown on the package. These rings are meant to tighten the ball joint connections to the legs of the walker. Please see the diagram on the official Stikfas website for details on where they go. Unfortunately, I did not know about this at the time I shot the images for this review.

The Dome Walker is an articulated walker that seats one Stikfas figure. It has fully articulated arms and legs, as well as a cockpit with many movable parts.

The cockpit has a movable seat, control arms, and foot pedals. The foot pedals have pegs in them so you can securely attach the figure. To make your life easier, I would take the foot pedals off of the cockpit, attach them to the figure, then re-attach them once the figure is seated.

The rear of the Dome Walker has an exhaust-type assembly. The Dome Walker can also grip either of the two included accessories - a ray gun and a vacuum cleaner.

A vacuum cleaner?

The included figure is a G2 Alpha Male type - larger and more articulated than the classic Stikfas figures.

This figure can be put in almost any pose imaginable. The figure comes with a variety of alternate parts to allow it to use accessories from other Stikfas figures.

The G2 Alpha Male is supposed to sit in the cockpit of the Dome Walker, but it is a tight fit. You can do it, but it is tough to not make the figure look squished. Once you get it, it looks awesome.

I think that this is a great little figure, but a couple of things could have been done a little better. First off, the figure is cramped in the drivers seat. It is difficult to get the feet attached to the foot pedals, and then somehow find room for the control arms. Once you get it to work, it looks fine. Second, the fit for these parts is REALLY tight. Putting the small hands into the forearms required a lot of force, and I even ended up putting stress marks on one of the hands because of it. I guess that is the trade-off for the stiff poses.

Overall, this is a cool toy, and a fantastic bargain at only about 20 bucks.

:

The Stikfas Archangel is made up of one Alpha Male body type and angel themed accessories. Included in the package is a sticker sheet to add detail or whimsy to your figures. I personally like the blank neutral look with the blocks of color myself so chose not to decorate mine.

As with all Stikfas assembly is required but that really is half the fun. You will need a hobby knife or cutters to get the parts off the trees without leaving nubs all over the figure. Assembly was straight forward and a diagram is included to show you which parts go where. The figure came with extra parts which apparently are included for "mix and match" with other Stikfas figures.

The joints are nice and tight and the figure is extremely poseable allowing for all sorts of fun poses. I only have two figures so I have not had much experience with mix and match yet, but judging by what I see available, I will have a lot of fun creating some custom figures.

I was surprised to find that the accessories actually glow in the dark. A nice touch.

Stikfas are action figures that you build and customize. There is no right way to build one, and each figure comes with an assortment of accessories and decals. Each stikfas figure is built around a specific theme, and this time, that theme is Mobsters.

The guys at stikfas have combined two of my passions into one toy - action figures and extreme violence. Some of the accessories include knives, guns, sticks of dynamaite, a bottle of liquor and even a cane with a skull on top.

The figure comes unassembled on a few different colored sprues. You have to assemble it by hand. There are several different choices you have for parts. Some legs have extra holes in them for adding decorations, such as badges. The figure also comes with a rubber trenchcoat, different hats, and even a violin case.

Stikfas seems to be on a roll with their dinosaur series of action figure/model kits. This particular kit includes not one, but TWO pterodactyls.

Each kit comes on one sprue, and includes the same parts, molded in slightly different colors. Each kit also includes a variant head and an extra part to integrate with regular action figures. This part allows you to connect a set of dinosaur to the chest of a Stikfas figure.

Assembling the kit is fairly easy, but will benefit from a set of cutters. Leftover sprue on parts can be pretty sharp. The parts are not numbered, but they are grouped logically on the sprues. The fold out diagram does not have directions per-se; just an exploded view of the model. It was a bit difficult to figure out what was supposed to go on first. Inexperienced modelers would benefit from numbered instructions.

Stikfas branches out from action figures to Dinosaur Skeletons!:

The Stikfas Dinosaur Stegosaurus comes packaged in a sturdy resealable box. Inside is a resealable bag, with two parts sprues, and an instruction sheet. I really like Stikfas packaging, and how almost nothing goes to waste. The dinosaur boxes are the same size as the figure boxes.

Assembling the dinosaur is fairly easy, but will benefit from a set of cutters. Leftover sprue on parts can be pretty sharp. The parts are not numbered, but they are grouped logically on the sprues. The fold out diagram does not have directions per-se; just an exploded view of the model. It was a bit difficult to figure out what was supposed to go on first, but I was able to figure out. Inexperienced modelers would benefit from numbered instructions.

The final product is a fully articulated Stegosaurus Skeleton. The thing looks really cool '“ not entirely anatomically accurate but with a cartoony-Sikfas feel. Unlike other Stikfas kits, there are no extra parts or stickers. I thought it would have been cool to add on a missile cannon, evil eyes or maybe even logos on the spikes.

Still, it is what it is, and it is a fun toy to build and play with. The connectors appear to be a common Stikfas size, so you could use the legs on another figure, or combine them with another dinosaur kit to make a new creation.
