Brand new in 2005 from Bandai America Incorporated is D.I.C.E., a futuristic adventure with loads of transforming "Dinobreakers." Based on the new entertainment property developed by sister company, Bandai Entertainment Inc., the show is currently airing on Cartoon Network's Toonami block to great ratings among boys 6-11. D.I.C.E. (Dna Integrated Cybernetic Enterprises) is a large corporation established to deal with emergencies occuring througout the Sarbylion galaxy. D.I.C.E. F-99 is the only unit composed entirely of highly trained kids. When a problem arises, the F-99 team is called to the rescue. And when their special training and skills aren't enough, they rely on their Dinobreakers to help get the job done. Always on call, always on alert - D.I.C.E. is ready for action. Originally made for the United States exclusively, the series was first broadcast in Cartoon Network in US, then YTV in Cananda. On 2005/12/6, Japanese version was premiered on Animax under the title Dinobreaker.

About two weeks after I found Robert and Jet, TRU finally unpacked what little more of the D.I.C.E. toys they had in the back. While most of it was your basic figures, there was the one vehicle that caught my eye.

Hoverptera: Robert's Hover type Dinobreaker. Its length in Dino mode is 14.0 ft and weight is 2.5 tons. Its special ability is flight.

The really nice thing about this vehicle is the level of engineering in it. Unlike its static partner the Motoraptor, the Hoverptera sports more motion. With more joints available, its wings can rotate clockwise at the shoulder and the wings can unfold to a wing span well over a foot wide! The legs can move forward and back wards and there's even a knee joint. Your basic creature features are also in the head. An additional, bonus mode comes in the form of a "landing mode" where the bike seat can actually turn 90 degrees upward and set parallel to the ground.

Packaged in Dino mode, the Hoverptera's transformation is a little more complex than the Motoraptor:

Fold the head down and unfold the front wheel

Turn the legs back and bend the knees forward

Close the arms together and fold the wings in

The Hoverptera's vehicle mode is like a motorcycle mixed with a UFO. From above it looks a little awkward but from the sides it looks a lot better. Because it is made to 'hover' the feet sport a set of wheels so it can roll across the room like a basic motorcycle toy. It might seem a little boring but it still makes for a great vehicle.

For something a little larger than I had expected, the Hoverptera comes at a good price tag. The play value alone is worthy of it being found and added to any Rider collection.

This was the first figure I noticed looking at the DICE line. While I laughed at the fact that a robot series actually had a character with the same name as me, my attention went towards getting Jet. After how much I liked the first one I went back to the local TRU and grabbed this one on a quick sweep. I wasn't as fortunate though to find him packaged without his vehicle: the Hoverptera.

Card Bio:

Robert Clapice: This pretty boy pilot of the Hoverptera is always concerned about his looks. As the pilot of the only Dinobreaker that can fly, Robert is often on the frontlines to scout out the situation. Though Robert and Jet compete over everything, the also make the best partners of the F-99 team.

While his bio is nothing like me, the figure shares the same limb components as Jet. The mold is changed to sport a more chrome purple/blue scheme. The different parts consist of the head, the shoulder armor and the chest plate. Other parts included that are not the same as any other figure are of course the weapons. Even though they are different, the new parts used make the figure look like the polar opposite of Jet's Gild suit.

The weapons included are more distinguishable than Jets as well; a beam sword and a claw tool. Each fit over the hands like a glove and stays relatively snug. Posing with them is not a problem because they lack the weight as some weapons in soft ABS tend to have.

Once again the downer to such a nice figure is the separation between it and its required accessory.
Jet Siegel: The hot-headed pilot of the Motoraptor.:

After Josh did his write up for Sam of the line, I decided to check these toys out for myself.

CARD BIO:

Jet Siegel: The hot-headed pilot of the Motoraptor. Jet lives for the thrill of action, and his fierce competitive streak often leads to friction with his teammates. But Dispite his hot temper Jet has a strong sense of right and wrong and isn't afraid to take risks to rescue those in need.

I ventured to Toys R Us and found these two at a reasonable price. The "Gild Suit" figures are well crafted in Bandai's soft grade plastic (same stuff used for their Gundam action figures) and the Motoraptor is done in Bandai's high grade plastic.

JET:

The quality of the figure is really good. Detailing at such as small scale has never been a problem for Bandai, especially after their record of Gundam MSiA (mobile suits in action). Articulation surprised me by how much was packed into these figures, 18 points without fear of wear and tear. The only thing I find lacking is a waist joint of sorts and being able to rotate its arms at the shoulder. Other than that the figure is really nice.

The accessories that come with Jet are a double barreled weapon of sorts and what I think looks like a fire extinguisher. One of the peeves of "kid friendly" weapons is that you never know if these things are for killing, trapping, or tickling. Jet also comes with a gold plated "D F-99" base like the other figures in the line.

The long story short, Jet is the first action figure I've gotten since the first generation of domestic MSiAs! At a price tag of $4.95 the figure is at a good price compared to any Star Wars figure of the same size. The difference though is you've got a figure with at least three times as much articulation and more character worthy details. Highly recommended for you vehicle/bot nuts! The only bummer is that his vehicle comes separate.

:

Jet's Dino-breaker that transforms into a motorcycle. Its length in Dino mode is 18.0 ft and weight is 3.0 tons. Its special ability is its Tail Attack.

When I snagged that figure of Jet, I found myself fortunate to find his vehicle/dino counterpart, the Motoraptor.

When I first saw D.I.C.E. commercials I thought back to the days of old transforming vehicle toys like M.A.S.K. where normal cars would transform into outrageous vehicles. The same thing is present in the toys of D.I.C.E. The Motoraptor is the first of the line in a blister card size I have found. The Motoraptor comes molded in cherry red plastic and is painted silver black and yellow. The Jet figure (or any D.I.C.E. character) fits onto the seat of the bike easily and stays in place thanks to the handle bars.

Articulation is a bit flat compared to the main character figures of the line. With articulation restricted to forward and backwards movement. The only parts with any additional movement are the feet because they rotate on a hinged joint to become the bike's rear wheels. This does not make it unable to make some dynamic poses though.

It comes packaged in Dino mode, and transformation into motorcycle mode is relatively simple:

Tuck the arms under the body

Fold the tail back

Pull back the legs and fit the feet together

Collapse the horn and rotate the head under the body

Bike Mode for the Motoraptor is really sweet. If it were a lean back seat it'd be a shoe in for Kaneda's bike from Akira. Not much to say about posing the bike, the only things that moves are the front and back wheels and the handle bars. Because of how broad it sits, there are no worries about it tipping over.

Overall: I found myself surprised with this line. While I thought getting Jet would be a gamble for extra piece of shelf candy, it wound up as a nice collectable. Sadly unlike most "character and vehicle" releases of Bandai's you have to get the Motoraptor separate from Jet. The good news is that you round up to 15$ US which is cheaper than those other packaged sets. If you want a good little piece of plastic with a nice amount of fun to it, these D.I.C.E. toys are right for the price!

:

When a problem arises, DICE is called to the rescue. And when their special training and skills aren't enough, they rely on their Dinobreakers, which can transform from Vehicle Mode to Dino Mode, to help get the job done!

Always on call, always on alert - DICE is ready for action!

This character is called Sam N'Dool, the token nerdy character.

The cheerful pilot of the Paratricar. A true genius and talented inventor, Sam comes up with clever gadgets and devices to aid the team on its missions. Sam can also be counted on to propose a new strategy or offer amazing solutions for seemingly impossible situations.

This particular figure is from their 4.5" Gild Up Heroes line. This figure is actually very cool. It's fully articulated, with ball joints at the shoulders, hips and feet, as well as joints in the elbows, wrists, knees, and 2 joints in the neck. You can do a lot with it, and it has the articulation you wish your old Star Wars figures had. The main joints are held together by metal screws and rivets, giving the figure a nice solid feel. The paint job has metallic paint with multiple applications, giving it a highly detailed look. The design is reminiscent of Kamen Rider - very heavily influenced by Japanese design.

Sam comes with 2 accessories - a grappling hook and a shovel. I'm not familiar with the show, so I'm not sure what purpose each one serves. A trading card is also included.

Another really cool touch is the Microman-like display stand. The gold chrome really compliments the metallic paintjob of the figure. There is a peg in the stand that fits in the hole in either foot of the figure. This figure could definitely blend in with a Microman collection.

Even if you have never seen the show, these little figures are worth picking up. Collectors will dig the detail, construction, and design, so these figures aren't just for kids.

For added fun, this DICE figure is the perfect size to sit in the cockpit of Yamato's Scopedog.
