CollectionDX - SD Gundam Force

A Japan/America co-production, SD Gundam Force initially broadcasted on Cartoon Network in US for 26 episodes, and later on TV Tokyo for 52 episodes, making it the longest Gundam series to date. Currently there has been no official word on the fate of the show within the US other than odd mentions, though fans continue to campaign for the release of the final 26 episodes on DVD. Unlike previous SD Gundam series, SD stands for Superior Defender. It is a crossover series based on the three SD settings that were used in earlier SD Gundam anime and manga: SD Commando, a science-fiction-styled militaristic setting; SD Sengokuden, a setting with samurai-themed robots; SD Gundam Gaiden, a medieval European fantasy-themed setting. It also contains many references and homages to the standard Gundam shows, especially those of the Universal Century, Future Century, and After Colony timelines.
The TV series has 2 spinoff comic series known as SD Gundam Force and SD Gundam Force Gaiden. However, SD Gundam Force Musha Retsuden is not based on the TV series and is instead an updating of the original SD Musha Gundam story, told via two generations (the original Musha Gundams and their sons).
RX-77 Guncannon & RX-75 Guntank are two of the earliest prototypes of
the Earth Federation Mobile Suits. Their strong armor and heavy fire power
gives them excellent medium and long-range artillery support.

The Toys

The Guntank and Guncannon come in a nice window box with a plastic tray. No
parts need to be assembled, and all accessories are easily accessible. No twist
ties are used to secure the product.

Included in the package is:

Guntank

Guncannon

2 core fighters

Vulcan guns and cannons for Guncannon

Beam Rifle

Cannons for Guntank

Instructions

Both Guncannon and Guntank separate at the waist to reveal a compartment to
hold the transformable core fighter. It is really difficult to separate the
halves. There appears to be buttons on either side of the waist to release
it, but I couldn't get it to work. It's also a little tricky to
get the 2 halves back together with the core fighter, because it has to line
up just right. Maybe I'm just old.

The figures themselves are pretty cool. The Guntank features working
tank treads, articulated arms and moveable cannons. Guncannon features
switchable shoulder weapons, a beam rifle, articulated arms, legs and head.

Guncannon and Guntank are designed to accept each others parts, so you can
make up new combinations, such as Cantank and Tanknon. You can also combine
parts from other SD Gundam figures for even more fun.

These toys are solid, well built and great looking. My only complaint is the
difficulty in combining the top and bottom halves. I'm glad that they
are including the old-school Gundam designs in the SD line.
