Last year Josh hit us with a flurry of reviews for the very sharp line of girl figures called Resurrection of Monstress. Each being a sexier reinterpretation of a classic monster. This would be their revamp of The Phantom of the Opera.

I thought the figures looked nice and Josh was nice enough to slip me one. Halloween had passed so I hung it on the wall and waited till now to bring you this review. That's right, I cracked the package just for YOU, our faithful CDX readers!

From the back of the package:

"Big star BELLA WINDSLOW is the most popular avant-grade industrial techno music artist with beauty. But not everybody likes her and some people felt jealousy towards her. BAMBI (who thinks BELLA is her rival) set her up the trap and made a terrible burn on BELLA's left face by the CD press machine. Automatically , BAMBI became the top star after BELLA has gone. But, this situation didn't continue for so long."

"Unexpectedly a mysterious industrial tecno player with enigmatic metal mask has made debut and she took BAMBI's throne very easily. That's right! She is the phantom of BELLA WINDSLOW. Revenge has begun as the "MASKED PHANTEANA"

The figure is really more of a statue with only the head, arms and wings rotating. But I think we all know these are meant to be put on the shelf and "look good". There not really meant to be "played with." (NOTE: If you are "playing" with your girl statues please seek professional help immediately.)

In all seriousness though, THIS is a very good looking figure that pays all the right nods to the original character while being fresh and original in it's own way. The sculpt and design are top notch, though she looks like her skin should glow in the dark and sadly it doesn't.

She comes with a bunch of accessories and you can see the influence of not only the original Phantom of the Opera but several of it's adaptations. Included are a keyboard, stand, base and mixer. 2 Masks (both in gold and clear for a total of 4) are included. One looks like the more current and popular half mask from the Andrew Loyd musical, the other reminds me of the campy 70's Phantom of the Paradise.

The included Owl remind me of the Claude Rains Phantom's mask and the skull evokes the classic Phantom's Mask of Red Death masquerade costume. Also included are some mannequin heads to display the extra masks.

While I normally do not collect "girl" figures I am a big fan of the Phantom of the Opera and I think the designer and sculptor came up with a neat concept. I give it a big thumbs up.

:

Vampire Curia (キュリア)was the first release in the Resurrection of Monstress line, a series of figures inspired by illustrator Yasushi Nirasawa.

Curia set the tone of the whole line, with her exquisite detail, numerous accessories, and of course, variants.

She is a Vampire Hunter
with the blood of a vampire and a demon
With her haunted past, she is destined
to wipe out all vampires
with her demonic sword "Bloodua”

The figure comes with a bunch of cool accessories:

Coffin with Lid

2 syringes

Blood bag

Coffin head

Small monster

The coffin is really cool. The inside is painted red, and the cover has amazing detailing. The inside of the cover has pegs so you can attach all the accessories to it. The coffin makes for great storage!

The figure is essentially fixed-pose. The only articulation is at the neck, shoulders and one wrist. The wings on the back do not move, but will break off easily. (They can be easily re-glued). The sword can attach to her hand by a peg in the handle, and the syringes can be hung on hooks at her hips.

Vampire Curia came out in 3 different variations:

Normal Color

Limited POP version (1,500)

Clear

Limited POP Version

I actually think the Limited POP version looks better than the regular. In addition to the red paint job, the POP version comes with a glow in the dark head for the coffin lid!

Also, the little monster is better detailed than the one that comes with the regular version.

Wolfinica is basically a heavy metal werewolf girl. This is such a great figure, and one of the better entries into the Monstress line. The figure comes with a bunch of accessories, including:

Stand

Wall of Amps

2 small amplifiers

Evil dog

Microphone

Ball and chain

Guitar with rubber strap

Claw Weapon

One of the great things about this figure is that it has pegs in the stand to hold the figure in place! also, the back of the stand has slots for some of the accessories, the only time this would happen in the whole toy line.

I also like the real strap on the guitar, and the metal chain that attaches to the ball. Nice work all around.

This is the limited, or "POP" version of the figure. The original figure is the same, only with a different color scheme.

Big star BELLA WINDSLOW is the most popular avant-grade
industrial techno music artist with beauty.
But not everybody likes her and
some people felt jealousy towards her.
BAMBI (who thinks BELLA is her rival)
set her up the trap and made a terrible burn on
BELLA's left face by the CD press machine.
Automaticaly , BAMBI became the top star
  after BELLA has gone.
  But, this situation didn't continue
  for so long.

Unexpectedly a mysterious

In the North Soup Village there is a rumor lately :
"There is something going on in the woods...........
strange sightings of the psychedelic light covering
Another rumor people said it's UFO ! Ah ha !
May be not ! That's me NOCTILCA !
I think that i have to save my hyper action a little bit
Grandma told me "if you are looking for old magic remedy,
you must go to the North Soup Village".
So,I'm here but look at this place.
Is this place ghost town or what?
There's no cool clubs, funky bars, no nothing but
some morbid stinking material that
i need for my magic!...........Oh! may name NOCTILCA
was named by grandma meaning [luminos bug],
perfectly fit with me right?! Year!
I wanna find the materials A.S.A.P and adios,
sayonara from this out dated place.
Hey by the way NUI, don't even think to bite that
Mandol...a...g......o..."Gwaaaaarrrrrrrrrr"...........
(Mandolagpra's scream). c.....too late!

Noctilca is a great figure and totally appropriate for halloween. Of course, she is a witch, but done Nirasawa-style. She comes with a TON of accessories that add a lot of value to this figure.

Hat

Broom

Memorial Tablet of Ancestor (Jack-o-lantern)

Nui (cat)

Mandolagola (root people)

Geckow

Dragons Eye

Garlick

Magic Mash (mushrooms)

Tsubo (Cauldron)

There's not much in the way of articulation. The head, shoulders and hands move. While the detail is awesome, the figure is tough to balance, and usually can only stay standing if she is holding her broom on the floor.

This is the variant, or "Limited POP" version of the figure, limited to 1000 pieces. The regular version is identical, except for more subdued colors.

The figure and base combined are 9 1/2 inches tall. Steela is made
of PVC while the base and accessories are made of a harder plastic. It

From the package:

        In the year 2000,
a battle for choosinng a leader
of the Aqua Clan has begun.
The champion of the battle is "Gillealla".
Her beauty and her strength makes
her the deep sea battle
queen of the new era.
height 180cm
weght 50kg

From the first series of Yasushi Nirasawas "Resurrection of Monstress"Â? series,
comes Gillella, inspired by the 1954 film "Creature from the Black
        Lagoon".

Gillella features 5 points or articulation (neck, shoulders and ankles),
and comes with a ton of accessories, including:

Clear "Creature Mask"

Creature Head

2 demonic fish

Knife

Treasure chest lid

Base

The figure can be placed on the base or can stand on it's own.
The knife can be held or placed oh her waist.

In my opinion, this is the best Monstress figure to date. It has the
best sculpt, accessories and base. Don't pass this one up.
