Lego brings us new Bionicle, Star Wars, Speed Racer, Batman, Indiana Jones and... Spongebob. With some highly entertaining VIDEO I might add.

Sorry Eva - no Exo Force on display. As a matter of fact, according to the press material whatever was due in January looks to be it for the foreseable future.

Bionicle on the other hand appears to be getting a big boost. There are tons of new figures to be had.

Bionicle is also adding vehicles to the line, speeder bike looking vehicles that are huge. Figures stand about 7 to 8 inches tall, these are bikes that look like a cross between a speeder bike and a pod racer. I was very impressed and I am really looking forward to these hitting stores.

Speed Racer is on many retailers plate and Lego is getting in on the fun. It seems like a perfect match really, 5 to 8 year old boys love Lego’s and usually love cars. This should do well this year.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars is the major theme with everyone who has a Star Wars license; Lego was no exception with not only a bunch of smaller items but several enormous vehicle/play sets. I am very interested in getting my hands on the gunship personally.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is the upcoming game from Lucas Arts and several toy lines are popping up for it, Lego is adding this Rouge Shadow that appears in the game.

Batman was shown with a few very nice pieces that reminded me of a mix of movies and comic book. I particularly liked the tumbler.

Sponge Bob was shown for “Bikini Bottom Express” – I’m not really sure what that means but I am sure Josh will enlighten me….

Indiana Jones is new to Lego this year and they had a nice mix of play sets and vehicles from the classic movies as well as the new film.

The Star Wars Lego games are some serious fun in a box and it looks like their new Indy Lego Game will be no different. We did not get to play the game but we did get to watch it being demoed on a nice HD screen. It looks like all the fun and humor of the previous Lego games is intact.

The fun thing about being invited to these special collector nights is the photo opportunities. My scrapbook is getting interesting.

Lego has always done some fun cool stuff and this year looks particularly good and I think they may indeed get some of my hard-earned money this year.

Also, they had a lot of DOMO-KUN merchandise out. From what I hear Domo-kun is coming to Nick Jr in the near future.

They are also distributing some classic Dr. Who statues from WETA...

The cool company with the hard to pronounce name.

While the name Scruncalli Dunchie may be new to you, you have seen their work before. Sculptor Rocco Tartamella has been working for companies such as McFarlane, Diamond Select, Art Asylum, Jazwares, Sideshow and Bowen Designs for the past 8 years. Now He's broken out o his own with his own company and imprint.

First up is some 12" vinyl representations of actual figures in Japanese history called Samurai Sengoku. These figures are fantastically detailed with accurate period dress. The stories behind these figures are fascinating.

They had Pirate bookends and a Pirate lamp. Once again, the detail is astounding.

I was also impressed with these Marble Cast busts of Greek Mythological figures. They have a classic look that makes them look like they belong in a museum.

A far cry from what NECA is doing with the Turtles, the Playmates version has their place nonetheless.

I have a confession to make. I never got the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I mean, I got the original comics, the Eastman and Laird ones, but then the bastardized kid-friendly version came out and at that point I jumped ship and never looked back. It's a testament to the staying power of the brand though that we've come this far and we're still seeing merchandise from the franchise.

Playmates is now doing small scale playsets in addition to their standard Turtles line - the figures that come with these sets are even more kiddie than the regular ones, a trend no doubt traceable back to those Galactic Heroes figures Hasbro puts out. But here we are, and it is what it is.

The playsets will all attach to each other to form a city scene.

also shown were some transforming turtle armored things. They can be transformed from Robot mode to Vehicle mode, because you know things that transform are all the rage these days.

I've seen a lot of Mindstyle's offerings before, but I never knew they were all from the same source.

I was immediately drawn towards this guy.

Imaginext is one of those lines that are made for kids but are appealing to me as an adult collector. In my opinion, they had one of the best toys of the whole fair this year.

The whole basis of Imaginext started out as modular playsets that you could build and re-arrange. Each line has a theme, be it dinosaurs, knights, pirates or the Jungle. This year, the focus is on DC heroes, done imaginext style. They made a cool bat-cave with cute little versions of all the heroes. The playset is loaded with play value - tons of accessories and gimmicks. Remember how cool Castle Greyskull was? This is today's version of that.

But as cool as that was - the star of the show (and maybe all of Toy Fair) was Spike the Ultra Dinosaur.

Spike is a large, kid-friendly, remote control dinosaur. The design of this thing is top notch. I love the sculpting of the whole Imaginext line, and this toy is no exception. Spike features full function remote control (walking, turning, standing on hind legs, picking up stuff off of the ground) as well as light up scales and sound effects.

I mean, just LOOK at him in action!

Leave him alone for a while and he will sniff around before shutting off. The buttons on the remote are large and easy to understand.

This thing blew my mind. It even features a rechargeable battery!

Spike will retail for $129.99 and I'm betting he will be on shelves for the holiday season.

The best thing that Diamond had on display we couldn't take pictures of. New 1/4 scale Star Wars figures.

So the big news from Diamond is that they secured the license to do articulated 1/4 scale figures from Star Wars and Indiana Jones. They had prototypes of Obi-Wan, Darth Maul, Han Solo and Indiana Jones on display but we weren't allowed to take photos. Each figure is fully articulated and includes cloth clothing and weapons. There will be sound chips inside each figure, and each figure will be available in a standard and deluxe version.

Other things they had on display, they dont manufacture but they distribute through their Previews catalog.

Underground toys distributed the Doctor Who toys here in the states and they where nice enough to take time with us to show us around the line.

For those that don’t know, most here at the CollectionDX office are big Doctor Who fans and while we have not been reviewing the toys here I think that is an oversight we will be correcting very soon.Underground toys distributed the Doctor Who toys here in the states and they where nice enough to take time with us to show us around the line.

Action Figures are at the core of their Doctor Who offerings but there are more than a few surprises along the way.

Deluxe figures feature the bigger aliens.

Figures are available individually or smartly packed together in gift and themed sets.

The Flight-Controlled T.A.R.D.I.S looks cool. It's an action figure scalled T.A.R.D.I.S that is motion sensitive. Picking it up, putting down, moving and spinning it will activate the sounds and lights but that's not all, when you open the doors you can see the console of the control room inside (a nice touch.)

One of the neat things about the action figure line is they have made several radio controlled figures. Daleks, Cybermen and K-9 have all been released in gift sets. I think there something very neat about action figured sized radio controlled Daleks.

But they don’t stop there, larger scale radio controlled Daleks (in multiple colors) and K-9’s are out in what appears to be 1/4th or 1/6th scales. I have one of the Daleks and it is a blast to play with, my cat on the other hand is not too fond of it.

Of course they have upped the ante with radio controlled this year and are introducing a larger (almost 3 feet tall) voice controlled Dalek. The Dalek includes a wireless controller as well as responding to voice commands. Another must get to chase my cat around with.

Micro-Universe is the new line they are introducing this year with a focus on smaller 35mm sized figures. Figures are available in blind packed packages. A package contains 3 figures with only one viewable without opening the package or comes in a seven pack with three being viewable, kind of like Gashpons but with an English slant. I believe this can also be played as a table top game, but we did not get details on that at the time. Exclusive figures are available with Vehicles and Starships as well. The sculpting details on these are nice and I’ll be adding some to my collection this year for sure.

Mini Mates continue to do well for all toy lines they associate themselves with and Doctor Who is getting in on the act. Figure samples where not out yet but these design pages where on display.

What good is a toy line without some role play items for kids to re-enact their favorite Time Lord adventures. Sonic Screwdrivers, Laser Screwdrivers, and Time Lord Watch are all available as well as masks and helmets.

If you watch the show, you know how important this watch is to last season and they knew adults would want a replica as well. This is an exact copy of the prop from the show and is due for release this year.

Underground Toys is bringing some great Doctor Who merchandise to the states, but that's not all. They do have Torchwood stuff coming soon as well. Torchwood for those trying to keep up is a spin-off of the Doctor Who series. I want to thank Robyn from Underground Toys for taking the time to show us around, it's going to be a good year for Whovian's.

On display was one of the prototypes for one of the Metapocalypse figures - this one looked to have some articulation in the arms. I think its going to be made out of soft vinyl. We weren't allowed to take photos.
