Made in Hong Kong for the Italian market, where Jeeg reigns supreme!

I've never been a really big fan of Jeeg, yet this is one of my favorite junior machinders. Maybe because you don't see it too often and it's very distinct from all the others that share similar heads and bodies and stuff.

Of course, having just said that, it is true that this one does share the same arms as many others, the ones having originated with Robo Kress. But so many of these toys have those arms it would almost seem strange if it didn't so I don't hold it against the toy. In fact, I think it works pretty well on this character, certainly much better than on toys like Dangard Ace or Pegas.

Jeeg is about 14.5" tall and seems to be made entirely out of polyethylene and hard plastic, even the head which is usually soft vinyl. Both fists shoot and the left fist can hold an axe. This weapon again is included with a great many junior machinders. It's final piece of artillery is a missile launcher located in the waist. Unfortunately, mine doesn't shoot anymore.

Jeeg has stickers on the arms, waist and neck and is articulated at the knees, hips, shoulders and neck. It comes in a nice box with some colorful and appealing artwork on the front. There is another, rarer Jeeg junior machinder out there, but I don't have that one. In fact, I can't even remember what it looks like.

This toy, as you might expect, is for die-hard Jeeg and machinder fans only.

The magnetic warrior Kotetsu Jeeg

This is a reissue of the Magnemo Jeeg toy that was originally released in 1975 by Takara.

Jeeg comes from the show Kotetsu Jeeg (or Steel Jeeg). Steel Jeeg (鋼鉄ジーグ in kanji, transliterated as Kotetsu Jeeg in romaji) is an anime series created by manga artists Go Nagai and Tatsuya Yasuda, and produced by Toei Animation. It was first broadcast on Japanese TV in 1975. The series lasted for 46 episodes. Steel Jeeg also ran as a manga in several children's publications. (wikipedia)

The toy itself is a faithful reproduction of the original.

Jeeg is largely a plastic robot, with magnetic joints. The head, arms and legs are all attached my magnets. You can swap the joints around to create unique combinations. There are also metal joints in at the elbows and knees.

The toy comes with a bunch of accessories including 2 launching fists, a stomach missile, a back missile assembly with 2 red missiles, and 2 magnetic connector joints. The connector joints can be used to connect the missiles and launchers to the legs or arms.

The toy is reasonably solid, but it seems like the magnetic joints are not strong enough to support the toys weight. It is a chore to get the toy to stand up straight, especially with the back assembly attached. Perhaps if the toy had ankle joints, it would pose a little better. I don't own the original to compare the two versions.

Jeeg is an OK toy at best. The reissue is a great deal for someone interested in acquiring the original but turned off by the high price.
