The VF-1A is serious business. My ingrained fear of 1st release Yamato products kept me from the 1S, but I have to say the 1A really is all that and a bucket of wings. Even though I already own it, I'm looking forward to the review. I'm strange like that.

While I sympathize with what you say I disagree that all collectors should bear the cost of the previous lines. I do get why if you have bought into the previous lines you'd be upset with a new run. However I know lots of Macross collectors who bought multiples of every release over the years, and then wonder why they feel taken advantage of. If your one of those collectors that did well then it's baggage you have to deal with.

I personally wasn't to invested in the previous releases so it's not an issue I have.... luckily. :)

Thanks for the thoughts though it is appreciated, I address this issue in greater detail in the next review.

Thanks for the kind words, it means a lot coming from you.

I do think it's superior in every way to the 1/48th scale series. Luckily I was not to invested financially in the line so I dumped what I had when they started showing the new 1/60 scale line. I don't regret it for a minute.

I have two of the new 1/60's now (the 1S and the 1A - review coming soon) and both don't stay on the shelf much, I just can't stop playing with these things. :)

If you like the bigger size of the 1/48 go for it but I think the improvements in the 1/60 scale make it a much better value and with Destroids coming in this size it will be the first time we have matching Valks and Destroids. =) Hope that helps.

Great review Atom! And man, I gotta say, that was a supreme job you did on the video review!!! Top notch stuff man.

Regarding the Valk now... :-P

Although I am a huge Macross fan, I haven't ventured very far into the Yamato Macross scene (only have the 1:48 Stealth w/ Super Parts, and because of limited space, it's still in the box). I've wanted to start on a mission to get the main characters in the 1:48 scale, but because they're so numerous, and expensive, I haven't got farther than the Stealth one.

My question is, do you think the new 1:60 versions are superior in every way to the 1:48? Should I just scrap the notion of collecting the 1:48's and just pick up here at 1:60v2? Or are there redeeming qualities of the 1:48's still worth considering?

This doesnt really have anything to do with this but I purchased an Aoshima 1/48 Legioss to display with theis when I get it. One bit of advice avoid them, they are a waste of money, the quality is worse than Toynami....
This toy deffinently looks a masterpiece.

Atom, you mentioned this as a possible TOTY candidate. Here's my issue with a toy like this that has gone through different phases of release with varying degrees of quality.. I think it comes down to baggage. To me it only seems fair to the previous buyers that this toy carries the baggage of all the versions that came before it. For example, if you bought two previous defective Yamato's, buying this one is sort of like buying an accumulation of the three. You just bought a six hundred dollar valkyrie in my mind. Not to say it's not a great toy, it's just that with such a long history of design and version after version from multiple different companies, is it really that great of an execution for a company to make a perfect Valkyrie anymore?

I was just thinking about how to handle repeated reviews for Valkyries over the coming months, fear not the norm won't be 20 min long videos showing transformation every time. :) I will certainly showcase the armor for you next time around.
