I agree. Whether or not they've got die-cast, they just seem like a whole different animal than the rest and that will likely kill any chance they'd have to win. "This must be settled the way nature intended....with a vicious, bloody fight!" I'm going with Daimos! I don't collect too many SOC toys, too expensive. The only one I have is Jeeg. And while he's a cool toy, I love the magnet joint and the connection gimmick it's too floppy and flimsy to earn the toy of the year title. Also Josh, any particular reason why you put Binaltech Convoy into two separate polls? The only one on that list I have is the L-Gaim. I would have said Dragonar but that came out in 2007. Daimos is the one- for the poseability and extra accesories it comes with. Now if only BANDAI would create a special SOC I'm going to invoke the comment-nomination rule: I hereby nominate Yamato's Danguard Ace. Our coverage of chogokin this year is pretty comprehensive. The only big omission is the Danguard Ace--we just didn't get one in time to review. There are reviews of this out there and plenty of pics. In a nutshell, it's as tall as SoC Godmars...and is mostly diecast! The transformation isn't quite as perfect as Groizer X's (you have to remove the fists, and I think you may have to swap out the wings)...but it's pretty close. Plus, there aren't THAT many renditions of this character out there compared to other hero robots. Among the vintage, the Jumbo is amazing, but it's in a whole other category of toy (like, you wouldn't expect the Jumbo to transform). The Popy ST and DX chogokin are actually fairly lack-luster. The ST looks nice, but is kinda boring. The DX is just poorly designed...very floppy. This Yamato chogokin looks great in both modes, is highly articulated, and sounds very sturdy. It's got my vote. WHO'S WITH ME??? ;) -- SOC Godmars- an amazing piece of work, especially in a year full of GREAT Chogokin (Daimos! Raideen! Toynami Beta! Aoshima's Emeraldas ship!) - the engineering, transformation, and heft and size make it the winner in my book. The honorable write-in mention has to go to Toynami's Beta. Despite my prejudice against toynami in general, I must give massive props for FINALLY bringing something the people want to the market, instead of simply making bad chogokins at a high price... FINALLY a fan favorite design at a reasonable price. |

I'm thinking Saint Cloth Myth should have been it's own category.
